What's a good way to cut the cost of feed down?

Is if true you can buy feed in bulk for less $$$?

If so, is anyone near sac interested?
Fermented Feed....

Quote: I hae been doing this for eome time know ans really like it. 1/2 cup of feed after it is fermented is all you need per adult...maybe a little more in winter when there is not as much forage. That is the equivalent of 1/4 each before fermenting.

Hi all! I have been really busy with work recently, and am far behind in reading this thread. But I realized I meant to invite you to an open house (coop?) that I am hosting:

My pet girls are one year old! So we are having a Chicken Birthday Party!

Come wish Rosie, Elanor, Violet, Mary, Edith, and Sybil a happy birthday.
We will have a potluck brunch and watch the chickens play!

Saturday, 26 April 2014, 11am to 3pm.
Sunnyvale (PM me if you want to come)

I meant to take some pictures of them this past weekend, but didn't get around to it.
Here are their albums:

What a nice invitation! I am a bit too far away (Paradise) but it sounds like fun!

Just got our first pullet egg from our Cream Legbar pair we have in the Isbar pen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Soon as they mature enough and I know the Isbar roo has been mating them, walla, Super Blue sex link eggers, according to nicalandia.
We had a couple of Blue Andalusian hens for a while last year, they sure were pretty, they got me dreaming about a blue chicken that lays a blue egg. We ended up parting with the Andalusian hens then I found the Isbars. I really like the BBS look and the other day I learned about the IBXCL blue sex link cross. Maybe dreams do come true.
Woo Hoo!!!

She may go broody yet! Most of mine are alreadyback out of broody mode. I just have the one I gave chicks to that is raising 12 babies now in the broody coop...
People who breed barred breeds for show take great pains to attempt get clear lines that flow from feather to feather like on this Wy:

Oh my! That one makes my eyes do funny things!!
Well, the two runts survived the first 48 hours so things are looking up. We've taken to calling them "Geronimo" and "Lazarus" (we have bets on both being roosters with our luck). Geronimo was up and peeping in the small brooder this morning, Lazarus is still really lethargic and spends a lot of time laying down in between brief bouts of eating. We decided to risk the integration this morning and dumped them in with the bigger chicks. Geronimo started running around with the others immediately, Laz wandered over to the heat lamp and crashed. Cross your fingers for our two runts! Geronimo - and Lazarus (the Isbar keeps cuddling up to her, good little nursemaid).

Aww...Congrats on gettling them over the hurdle! Hope they continue to do well...

Maybe white being from partridge bred with porcelain made partridge looking chicks which can vary as the grow
I was wondering about that! Setting eggs from my one porcelain pullet should clear up the mystery. I just can't believe birds out of a top breeder like Catdance's porcelain pen would produce partridge colored chicks. I do hope the chicks stay a nice partridge color so I can use my white pullet to produce more for those people who want that color.

I looked it up on the Genetica Calculator and porcelain x white = black patterned gold incomplete columbian, so probably the white pullet is the mother of these chicks.

porcelain is very much a work in progress and can still pop up a fair few other things.

Was trying to get the broody settled and was going to take away the fresher eggs for the incubator. Just for fun I candled two of them. SHOCK

Internal pips! I put the eggs back. I want to hang out by her cage now. Having a hard time not just camping there tonight!
