California - Northern

So my Marans and Cream Legbar are fully feathered...I have set up a temporary pen to keep them in inside the run area of the coop/run, but it's going to get down to 60 degrees tonight...do I need to worry that they'll be too cold? There's 3 of them and they're just little things still. I don't want them to freeze to death!

If they are over 6 weeks old and fully feathered, the could go out into 32 degree weather and be fine.

I think one of my orps isn't emptying her crop. It's been VERY full since yesterday morning. She's skinny :( what should I do? Can I halo her somehow?

Thanks Ron! It says there's a chance of a storm all week, should they be spending their nights inside unless I can cover at least half of their pen? It's under a covered run, buy it's tall so the wind could blow rain in.

If it's full of seed/crumble you could try tubing water to help flush it through, but impacted crops and/or crop stasis is usually a sign of an underlying disease.

When did you worm her last and what did you use?

What time were you there? I meant to get there before 8 but we got there around 8:20. The lines for everything were long but by the time we checked out there was a lull. There was no line at all to pick up feed. DIL and I both pulled into the building for the feed. The guys working in there hopped to and quickly started loading our cars. Suddenly, I realized that they were loading bags and bags of rabbit feed into my car trunk! I don't even have a rabbit!!! I'm sure glad I saw what they were doing before taking off! Give me my King feed now!!! Just kidding! It took 5 of them to get my order right!

I got there right at 8 and couldn't find a spot to park at first. I probably got checked out though about the time you showed up. I think the line for feed died down after I went through. Most of the people that were there early were there for Hay. I picked up another brooder bulb and some more nipples.

Yep, we live in northern Shasta County (also State of Jefferson) so Dunsmuir and Mt Shasta are as close as it gets to the nearest stores of any kind.  We have more bears than neighbors.

Having grown up in Dunsmuir and recently relocated back to the area, I have always thought of anything north of Redding as being northern California.  Probably because Redding has more traffic and traffic lights on any given street than all of Siskiyou County combined.  California could easily be divided up into 4-5 sections; very diverse state.

We are the proud parents of 13 guineas and 12 chickens - all 3 weeks old now.  Current construction project is the electric fence to go around the coop before we move the babies out there.
So if you're between the two cities you're off 89 or Abrams Lake Road, could be a few other option though. I spent a few years in the area, needless to say, graduated from DHS.

Welcome to a great thread!

(reads about all the incubator purchases and starts backing away slowly, hoping to avoid the hatching fever)

But congrats to those with new incubators!

FEVER! WHEN YOU HATCH FOR ME! FEVER WHEN I HOLD CHICKENS TIGHT!

They will be fine, but ron already got you. They will cray pitifully when you turn the lights off, but that's normal.

I sprayed her with frontline spray yesterday because I found a really bad infestation of mites on her
poor girl! you are having the worst luck! /hugs to you and your chickens. I was talking with a friend about your other black bodied chicken breeds last night and could not for the life of me remember the names...

The forecast was right, poured from 8-10:30, wind played with canopies not weighted down. I did fine in the weather and sold all the eggs so I have room for this weeks.:):D
