California - Northern

Just a quick reminder to those of you in the East Bay area, Concord Feed is having its annual 20% off everything sale today! We were there shortly after they opened and the line was long. I was able to pick up several bags of King Freedom layer pellets for $18.39/bag and Freedom starter for $19.59/bag. Of course, I found a few other things to add to my purchase such as a roll of 6 ft tall deer and rabbit fencing for runs at the farm. I had to call my DIL to come rescue me with her minivan. I couldn't figure out a way to safely load a 6 ft roll of fencing in my Mazda!
We should have coordinated I was there too. A number of things I probably should have got but didnt.

What time were you there? I meant to get there before 8 but we got there around 8:20. The lines for everything were long but by the time we checked out there was a lull. There was no line at all to pick up feed. DIL and I both pulled into the building for the feed. The guys working in there hopped to and quickly started loading our cars. Suddenly, I realized that they were loading bags and bags of rabbit feed into my car trunk! I don't even have a rabbit!!! I'm sure glad I saw what they were doing before taking off! Give me my King feed now!!! Just kidding! It took 5 of them to get my order right!

Yep, we live in northern Shasta County (also State of Jefferson) so Dunsmuir and Mt Shasta are as close as it gets to the nearest stores of any kind. We have more bears than neighbors.

Having grown up in Dunsmuir and recently relocated back to the area, I have always thought of anything north of Redding as being northern California. Probably because Redding has more traffic and traffic lights on any given street than all of Siskiyou County combined. California could easily be divided up into 4-5 sections; very diverse state.

We are the proud parents of 13 guineas and 12 chickens - all 3 weeks old now. Current construction project is the electric fence to go around the coop before we move the babies out there.

Post pictures when you can.

You are in California.

OK....I did it...I processed my first meatie....all by myself. It is now resting comfortably in the fridge. It was not nearly as traumatic as I thought it would be. Took me about an hour and half from start to finish, but the next ones will go faster now that I know what I am doing. Plucking took the longest of course. He was 4.4 lbs pre-process and finished out 3.6. I found a great thread here with pictures that really helped. Here he is...ready to bag and tag.

Looks very professional!

Welcome to the thread and to BYC! I'm in Redding, so not too far from you. :)

So my Marans and Cream Legbar are fully feathered...I have set up a temporary pen to keep them in inside the run area of the coop/run, but it's going to get down to 60 degrees tonight...do I need to worry that they'll be too cold? There's 3 of them and they're just little things still. I don't want them to freeze to death!
