I think i really would rather it beworms then mareks. is there anythin else it could be?

Hope you know that I'm not saying it *is* worms or Marek's. Many other things it could be, but I just a made a guess as to what I thought it could be based on my experiences and the symptoms you described. Worms are easy enough to treat for with the right amount of the right wormer. Most bacterial infections are treatable is caught soon enough.

Well all i have right now is: protruding keel bone,black comb,empty crop, loss of feathers (his underbelly was kinda bare)
but he was still eating and i ghink the poo was good but im going to look again when i get off work

I'm in Sonoma County, near Petaluma (the former "Egg Basket of the World" but now home to a dwindling number of abandoned henhouses) in a very rural area surrounded by vineyards.


There's a small organic chicken farm down the road, and my great-grandparents used to have all their own livestock. Unfortunately the chickenhouses fell into disrepair and had to be torn down, but now I'm starting up the chickens again with a new coop!


I got my six chicks (2 RIR, 2 NHR, 2 Cuckoo Maran) from Western Farm Supply in Santa Rosa on the 10th, and I think they said they had got the chicks from Belt Hatchery, but I'm not sure. I also got some organic chick starter there, which they seem to like. The staff were very helpful and polite as well.


Anyone have any feed store recommendations for Sonoma County or the greater Bay Area? Or any sources for chicks and hens?

They thought poisoning only due to the fact that he hates them. its not mareks ive looked up the symptoms and they were vaccinated. what sort of internal parasites could itbe? and could it effect my hens?

Vaccination for Mareks just means they will not show symptoms. They can still carry the disease to others and die from it. It is carried and brought in by wild birds. If any more die, I'd have them necropsied. With what you have told us, it could be so many things - like Kathy said. And yes, it could affect your hens as well.

The heat lamp fell down onto the chick bin while we were out visiting my grandmother. I feel horrible imagining them unable to escape the heat. All my daughter's new little Easter Eggers are gone, and my Faverolle pullets. The male Fav is doing okay, and the packing peanut Fav is in rough shape but trying to make it. I had other bins with the Marans, Dominiques and meat boys so they are all safe, at least. Very upset. I usually use hanging lamps for the chicks, but they had a clamp. I am guessing when my husband put it up he just didn't screw it down tight enough.

I'm so sorry for your loss, but also good to hear you didn't lose them all. I've used clamp lights occasionally, they will loosen over time.
