The old style did not have the LCD panel with sensors and controls.

So in addition to the ones on Craigslist, I'm also looking at ones on Amazon. I'd almost prefer one from Amazon so that if there's any problems, I can get my money back.

These are the ones I've found that I could afford before I need to set my eggs, if I were to choose to buy one instead of having someone else incubate eggs for me.

Would any of these work for a house where the temperature is fluctuating? Would I want a still air one, or a circulated air one?
Sorry for all the questions, it's just a big decision and I don't want to jump into it without fully researching. :)
Of those I thing the Genesis is your best bet.

Would it matter if the Genesis I got, if I were to get one, is the old style or the new style?

The new style is much nicer but it depends on the price. If you can get a new style for a great price go for it!

The old style works the same except it does not have the sensors. I still use a Brinsea spot check and a combo hygrometer thermometer from Incubator warehouse.

Go for either of those.

So....the turning cradle on the Brinsea Octagon 20 Advance I just got in February has broken. The little arm that attaches the motor to the turner broke where it attaches to the screw. Of course I have my BLRW eggs from Papa Brooder in there and when I went in to check this morning it was tilted almost on it's side and some of the eggs feel out of the racks. I tried to set it back up where it belongs and there was no resisitance so it rotated too far back the other way and knocked the eggs around some more. One cracked. ( Repaired with nail polish). I took it off the cradle and will now have to turn by hand. I emailed Brinsea to see about warranty repair/replacement ( I did register it when I got it for the extended warranty). Hopefully they will stand behind it.

What about the 48 egg incubator on CL for $100, this one...

Would that work, too? It seems to have great reviews and is even cheaper than the Genesis.

It depends on what your main focus is. You want a forced air one. If this one has a fan, for the money, I personally would go with it because it is digital, has the hygrometer & is half the cost. I do not like Little Giant, do like the digital Hovabator with the hygrometer the best of the styrofoams that I have used. It looks like the $100 one on Craigslist is comparable if it has the fan. I prefer to buy second for a deal if I can find what I need. I feel like I am recycling & saving money.

If the old one you get is not just a Hovabator but a Hovabator Genesis with fan & is digital, even if it doesn't have the hyrometer it's better than a still air. The old wafer style heaters I did not find reliable. This is just my 2 cents worth though.

I have an English Orpington cockerel about 4 months old. He was supposed to be a she. He's a cross between a jubilee and a blue. Genetically predicting, with a jubilee hen, he'll produce 25% jubilee, 25% red columbian, 25% blue columbian, and 25% blue jubilee. I'm in sacramento. I also have some black copper maran pairs for sale!

Mine broke last year. I sent them an email and they mailed me a new cradle. For the time it took to get to me, I hand turned the octagon--it is very easy to do.

I am watching the new one. The Brinsea has a two year warranty since I registered it so I can get a new one this year if needed. The one I have now is clicking so it could go at any time. Of course it has been running non stop since December.....
