California - Northern

THANKYOU. Yes, I'm familiar with the bloom. Ironically way before I had my chickens and growing up in Santa Barbara, my Father Raced Homing Pigeons for 70 years, he would condition them as any other athlete, had imports etc.... I remember holding/helping him vaccinate for New Castle. I remember what he did for Canker Sores, Egg binding, I would even help him stitch up his birds if they hit a wire or were attacked by a hawk. I've already stitched up chickens. The other day, I put a needle into one of my RIR she was bloated (perhaps egg peritonitis) I withdrew a lot of fluid and then I gave her "fish mox" for infection cause she was warm on her tummy too. She's back out being a bug slayer, she's older and probably won't lay anymore and she may even begin to take on water again. But it worked for the time being! :-)

Needed to fill up those brooders huhh :)

Keeping my fingers crossed for the Legbars.
You must have seen I have an empty brooder on the front porch while you were here for the party. You put the eggs right where I could easily find them & I set them today @ 2 p.m. in the R-Com. There was 2 empty slots so I added 2 BCMs eggs.

Funny you should say that, lol, I have to go to TSC to get another Rubber Maid tube to use as a brooder!

We just can't help ourselves right????? LOL

I'm with you, I clean and sanitize after every hatch. Then I put a freshly washed shelf liner in the bottom each time. The water I add has a bit of Oxine in it. Can't be too safe from the bacteria.

I had this with my male border collie, Riley. I was painting the room that holds my incubators, so the table was pulled away from the wall. He was circling the room (duh, what else would he be doing............he's a border collie, LOL), anyway he ran along the wall behind the table and the wire from the genesis to the power bar caught on his stifle as he ran by. The incubator hit the floor, all the eggs tumbled from the turner and a few cracked. It wasn't mischief on his part and I love him more than the chickens anyway.

It was my fault for not locking him up while I was working in there. Anyway, the eggs that didn't crack mostly hatched without problem.

I was more upset the time the same exact thing happened with one of my female border collies, Ceilidh. But the wire her leg caught on was attached to my laptop. It hit the tile floor and had to be replaced.

Once again, totally my own fault

Dogs, ya gotta love em!

I am getting old & crouchity (is that even a word)??? I am enjoying NOT having a house dog right now, but you never know when I will cave in & that will change. My husband has his Border Collie out in a large run next to the pasture. He has a house & a water tub & automatic water & feed & my husband takes him out to the pasture all the time. I did just go pick out a new Pug puppy for my husband's birthday & will pick it up in 2 weeks but he will keep it with him out in the barn most of time except for sleeping in our bed all night.

How about from San Luis Obispo (SLO) is South. Though Visalia, Bakersfield and all those area are considered (Central) but we will allow them to be considered "northern" with us. lol
No geographical lines drawn on this thread.....right folks???? Welcome!!!!!

I believe I'm central we who live here divided California up in to 3 sections! I'm right smack in the middle of California right before Fresno.
@fortyfivefarm lives in Madera. I wish I had known you were so close you could have come to the chicken party yesterday & met a whole bunch of other chicken lovers from all over. It was such fun & a lot of chicken & egg swapping went on as well as buy/sell/trades. I ended up with a bunch that's for sure....LOL Thanks Dyann @Chooklet , Shantih & Mario @chiqita @, Debi & Monet @PetRock & Jeff @PapaBrooder plus eggs galore to hatch thanks Rebecca @CackleJoy , @fortyfivefarm & @PetRock

Hi,
I've Sicilian Buttercup eggs and Rhodebar eggs and just basic blends for sale on Ebay at the moment. How can I delete an old account "DiabloDaRoo" for some reason it comes up when I respond from my cell phone. UGH! lol
