It depends on what you are trying to do. If you are trying to clean off salmonella and ecoli and mg/ms it needs to be activated and in warm water. I am doing a test with this on my party eggs I dipped them all in 140° activated oxine water but did not rub or wash so to speak. Theoretically this should kill bacteria but not take off the bloom.

so unactivated its not as strong as a vinegar water solution?

My camera sucks (so do my photography skills) so the colors aren't showing up very true. Most of the blueish ones look a lot darker than they are.

My daughter is pointing to the chick she wants to name 'Black One'.

She knew they were going to be going into the off-limits brooder for the night, so it was tough to get any pictures without her sneaking in some petting. This picture is probably the closest to the actual color from the ones I got.

This is just one of my daughters' EEs she wanted to take a picture of when we were done with the Orpingtons.

The one hiding his face under the pale chicks is the only one who looks really black in person, so he's probably mine. My mom thinks black birds are ugly.

Interesting experiment!

I read that it does need to be activated to kill they kind of stuff we worry about. I'm going to clean my bator with it and also run it with some bowls of it in the hopes that I will fumigate the electronics this way.

I ordered oxine but worry about activating it. Honestly a 10/1 water vinegar solution is pretty darn affective as well.

By the way, @BCollie the Wyandotte was declared to be an exception to my mom's growing out aversion. I took over some of the Marans early to keep him company and she borrowed a broody set up from me so she could keep him on hand. She already loves him.

Oh my goodness, I have chick fever. And I even have a bunch of chicks in the brooder. It's just, seeing those little fluff butts without even a single feather on them...there's something so cute about that. I can't wait to hatch out my own.

They grow up sooo fast!!
&Yay I'm glad she likes the little cockerel! He really is darling!! I'm glad he's found himself a good home.

I use lysol all purpose cleaner--The bottles says it kills 99.9% of Germs. The chickens will just have to live with what is left over.....
