I've had great hatches with dipping the eggs in Oxine but it hasn't been activated. I may have to try it. I do know that I have a new (used) incubator that needs sanitized and activated Oxine may be the way to go for that!

SALAD!!

That made my day

Oh that is so funny! I had never thought of that

I had to confess my faults and Nolan nobly forgave me

Karen, I would love to bring lunch and visit while the children swim! Yes, it was Aislinn who had to be coerced in to leaving the water. She was asleep before we got to 99.

Bielefelders are so beautiful! I'm resisting adding any new breeds! REALLY RESISTING

That is good to know! I wondered how bad it is. That means I can use it while the baby is sleeping and a fan should blow it all out - no need to worry about using it only outside.

Well Rebecca, it looks like here you are again as Nolan.............LOL I am looking forward to the Bielefelders I do so like Crele. You go right ahead & try to resist.........may the force be with you....LOL. You just let me know when you want to come. I am pretty flexible & my grandkids are in the pool pretty much everyday all summer.
Would love to get into breeding but as you know I am limited on the space issue
I know....that sucks....!!!! I could live in town if I HAD too but I am spoiled now.

What would u get if a gold phornix hen was crossed with a silver phoenix roo?
Im also grtting an oegb in june anything i should know about them? Are they aggressive?

What do you guys think is easier to sell? Rare breeds, or common breeds? I want to hatch out chicks that are going to be easy to find homes for. I would think rare breeds would be easier, but then again they will cost the buyer more, so maybe not. What do you guys think?

Can u say pile of feathers lol?

evdryonr wants to dust batge in that particular spot lol
It must have the right combination on loose soil and sun.

I have been trying to get thru the posts and reply for the last 2 days. Everytime I would read posts and choose the "multi" for the 10 or 12 posts I wanted to reply to, I would lose my internet connection, my browser would suddenly decide to shut down completely or freeze up or, like this morning, BYC would be completely inaccesible.

I decided not to try to go back and redo it a 10th time. Sooooo....for all the posts I couldn't reply to......."congratulations"; "cute chicks"; "good luck"; "nice job"; "hope you have/had fun"; "great info"..... just pick the appropriate repsonse to your post...

I think you have to know what market you are catering to. If you are selling pets, layers, meat birds etc. What is easier to sell depends on your market and location. Shipped chicks/birds have their own challenges.

I would cruise CL ebay and even some of the community boards on the internet. You might want to offer hatching services vs trying to predict what will sell. That way you could take orders vs buying eggs speculatively.

it depends on your area, popular things that are hard to find around you are the best, but that will vary. things that are sexed at birth you can sell, but then you are left with the boys. but no matter WHAT you do, if you are hatching, you will be left with some boys, you cant really sell the ones as straight run that are clearly boys, and after a few days 1 or 2 will be clear. So, have a plan before! Or it will suck.

There is a far side cartoon in there somewhere....

we are driving to seattle to see the Miro exibit! only 3 days but im very excited! Going to Marin tonight and leaving from there in the AM so not having to worry about traffic. I have been madly organising chickens all day so they will be OK with someone to check on them once while Im away..

I think the difference in price for a chick is not significant enough to put people off. $3/each vs $7/each would no be that much for me to get a breed I really wanted unless I was buying a lot of them. At least not too much to keep me from buying

It depends on your audience. People on Craigslist want to pay $1-3 per chick and want them to all be pullets and will ask for a quantity discount. Then they NEVER show up with a box and expect you to provide one.

I'd just as soon process the extra chicks if I am going to give them away to people on CL.

Well that is a problem. I'm still looking for space. I live so close to a number of places that could house them its just a challenge to find contacts.

Cruising CL can also serve to know what competition you may have.
