What do you mean by a foster service?
I raise out the chicks for about 8 weeks so they do not need to deal with the extra expense of "brooding" them. I get them through the early period till feathered and can migrate outside.

We are doing this for some friends who are going to be new to chickens.

You guys are a bad influence--I caught myself asking one of my students if her dad incubates or just uses broodies

(Yes, I know her dad has chickens--she and I talk about chickens occasionally.) Even if her dad was comfortable negotiating the lending of an incubator through a 3rd grader, the fact that both adults in the house will be running separate fireworks booths this fireworks selling season, and that we're wanting to go camping between the end of school and the beginning of Oregon's fireworks season (a week before ours) means that I wouldn't want to be setting until midJuly, and I don't see this student outside of school ever.

@ronott1 I got a chance to candle the UofA eggs late last week - ALL of them are developing nicely (12 of 12). Wow.
They are due to hatch this weekend. Eggs-cited! My Langshan broody mama is taking her duties very seriously.

On another note, I picked up 8 standard bronze turkey eggs at the Chicken Party. Yesterday, my BLRWyandotte broody hen was successfully moved to a maternity ward & the eggs were successfully transplanted underneath her. Yay! Now, the long wait begins...

Hmmm, now I think I need some frizzled serama eggs to stick underneath my 2 silly broody banty hens. They are taking turns sitting on each other.

My incubator is going to arrive ahead of schedule! It'll be here tomorrow. Time to go get some TJ's eggs so they can set for 24 hours :)

I hope they all hatch for you!

It depends on your audience. People on Craigslist want to pay $1-3 per chick and want them to all be pullets and will ask for a quantity discount. Then they NEVER show up with a box and expect you to provide one.

I'd just as soon process the extra chicks if I am going to give them away to people on CL.

Lisa that's great. I didn't get to see who got what. I think I had taken a group of people to the chickens. The Turkey eggs were Bronze right? I am going to PM Jules & ask about a few items. I won the nail polish bucket to give to my grand daughter that manned the snow cone, cotton candy & popcorn machines. She got a good workout.....LOL She is such a good girl..............
