California - Northern

Took some pictures of my garden. It's growing nicely this year:) harvested some potatoes and snow peas. I will soon have zucchini, carrots and green beans too.

PS having snow peas for breakfast doesn't go very well with coffee, LOL.

That's beautiful! Wish mine looked like that :P Has to be the area you live in I have had to watch water too much.

Hey guys, I'm new here but I'd like to say I live in martinez If anyone knows where that is!

I do know where Martinez is..............Welcome. My husband's family use to go to Martinez for picnics when he was a kid. They were from Oakland. I will have to ask him where they went there. Ue has fond memories of their times there. I think there was a big swimming pool but this was a very long time ago........LOL
We live in Turlock now & have since 1979.
What chickens do you have or are interested in? You will find so much info here & friendly willing to help people too.

Well, I didn't make it to Trader Joe's but I did find someone locally with fertile eggs. I got a mix of different breeds but they're all purebred, and all for $15 so I'm happy. I got:
5 Black Copper Marans
5 Welsummer
2 mixed color Marans
1 Olive Egger
1 Amerucana
2 Black Tail Japanese Bantams

And tomorrow morning I'm going to Trader Joe's to get fertile eggs as I didn't have time to get there this evening. How long do the refrigerated eggs need to sit on the counter for before they can be set in an incubator?

Quite a nice selection....good luck with your new incubator.
Will do. :) Are any of those breeds auto-sexing?

Nope........................not that I know of.
Drakes tend to be much quieter. I've hear Muscovy are quiet but I've never kept them. The quietest duck I've personally kept was a Cayuga.
Muscovies are called the quackless duck. Ours would stick out his neck & hiss....................LOL

I love ducks, LOVE them. Had them the whole time I was growing up. They seem to be a lot messier and a lot harder on the land they're on than other poultry. It is possible to keep them as backyard pets, but go in well-researched and with your eyes wide open.
Good advice for any new venture................google, u tube etc................. are great. You can sit & learn forever.

Des anyone here use alfalfa pellets? Ifnso how do you like using them ? I am considering making my own organic feed and I'm seeing it in a few recipes out there. In the summer I throw out a bale and they get plenty of veg table scraps since we're a large family.
