Question for the all knowing folks on this thread.
The phoenix cockerel has a leg where the knee is rotating in under his body and the foot is rotating away from the body. Is this a slipped tendon?
His legs where good at hatch and he is around 5/6 weeks now. This has happened in the last 3 days, is there a way of correcting it. He is putting a little weight on it for short periods. So far the girls are OK.

okie dokie, thanks. I will save the expense and stick with kelp powder sprinkled on the ferment and bales throughout the summer with the scraps. found quite a few items for "chicken grade" wheat, peas, and oats at azure along with the flax, kamut, millet, ... bringing my per lb expense at .40 per lb if i did my math right. less than any organic pellets i could find.

Im hoping its not to low in protein but ill just throw beef out a few times a week and watch the flock to know for sure.

looks like I'm sticking to Walmart for boss as its crazy expensive everywhere else!

@petrock looks like we have a late blooming comb in the pita kids. We are looking forward to have a choice of boy for the flock! Beautiful birds, the hens are still carrying a lot of white.
I use kelp powder and alfalfa powder that I mix in a mash made of layer pellets, plain yogurt, and often shredded vegies. If I put too much alfalfa in the mix, my girls are not too crazy about it. But they still have it gone by mid-day.

I buy my bird seed with BOSS in it at Costco. It has a high percentage of BOSS along with millet and a few other seeds. I've been very pleased with how it sprouts.

Yeah for the Pita Pintas!!!! Best birds, ever!!! It is good that you have a choice for boys. I only hatched 2 from my original eggs from Megan and one ended up having brassy colored hackle feathers. With the chicks that I hatched this year, I am culling for body conformation, size, and lastly for color. I am hoping that some of them have more white than their parents.

So much to learn......................... I usually only really research the breeds I am wanting. While at the party I learned a little about the Seramas which a couple of my friends have. Who knew there were sizes named ABC etc.............I do not have enough time left to learn all I would love to know , but it is sure fun working on it.
My hatch yesterday I think is over I had Bielefelders from Washington & Silver Cuckoo Marans also from Washington different breeders. I only got 1 Bielfelder out & 10 Cuckoos (mostly boys) plus an extra from a project bird of here's. Great on the Marans....what a bummer on the Bielefelders. Same incubator no pips on the other eggs. I keep hoping I set them different days (which I have been known to do.....LOL) & forgot to make a note of it but not likely since the one did already hatch. I don't know that I will try again. I haven't done shipped eggs for years til these. I threw in some AMs from my pen to fill out the incubator & they hatched too. One is the cutest fat cheeked blue or splash. It makes me smile...............LOL

Very nice, Chris!

What did you decide to do for the roof? Is your roof line slanted? Also, are you planning on putting a narrow board at the bottom front of your nest box? Without it, if you use pine shavings in your nest box, your girls will have a great time kicking the shavings out of the box. This is the voice of experience speaking!

It does have a small lip now but I can add another insert.

And they will kick poopy shavings in the nest box. The lip helps a lot.
Yeah I looked at a lot of coops and just designed and built it myself. (with a little help from a very carpentry capable brother-inlaw)

Yeah the 2 large doors are for ease in cleaning it.

I have not come to a decision on the roof yet but I remembered there is a person at my church who is a roofer maybe he can get me some scrap composite shingles.

Coop pics almost done needs a roof and paint but pretty much done.

One more freestanding removable roost will go inside to provide access to the higher roost if needed.

Once done with that its a matter of framing in the run and adding a ramp.

Wow! Looks great. Did you use parquet flooring?

Once I have the big coop and run complete Ill need to clean the old one out before moving the buffs in. I was going to give it a good wash and scrub down with a bleach solution. What strength should I use and how long do I need to let it sit before I can have the birds in it.

Ill probably do the same for the brooder box after the fosters go.
