We did everything very haphazardly. As we needed a house, we'd build on and add it on so the chickens kind of wrap around building. Someone said our place looked like Auschwitz for chickens

I remember seeing a lovely set up somewhere on BYC. Hopefully it was this forum and that person can share pictures again.
@capayvalleychick has very nice breeding pens that would work nicely for what you want.

This is a picture of the inside of one.

Kim has much better pictures.

I am ordering eggs from @Papa Brooder . I have my first proven broody and she is getting BBS Ameraucana/EE eggs

and prayers for safe shipping. http://www.papaspoultry.com/store/page6.html

Beakface has moved Theresa off of her nest, stolen her eggs and T is on golf balls for the moment. It has been this way for about 72 hours so the AM/EE eggs will go to BF and T will get all of her eggs back.

I am over 200 posts behind but wanted to say that your birds, babies, coops and gardens are beautiful. That your plans for incubation sound exciting and a big welcome to all the new peeps. Bring us your questions, thoughts and conundrums and they will be taken seriously. You will never be made to feel like a ninny because we were all new at this too.

I was thinking of building a long divided house maybe 16-24 long feet with roost and nest box per trio. With a 8-12 foot enclosed run off each trio (actually hoping to breed 5-6 hens to 1 roo)
This should net me 5 or 6 pens. Then build a 6-8 foot laying/juvenile house with run and a batchelor pad roost and run.

lmfao my. mom just made a big mistake she said "you can have ducklings if u dont catch any snakes this year" (i bring tgem inside and they grt loose lol)
Hmm... not sure it's a fair deal, lol. I used to always catch snakes. My mom hated it, but she refused to pay money for a snake, so she always said the rule was if I wanted a pet snake, I could keep what I could catch. Then she found my rattlesnake tanks and changed that rule. SO unreasonable. A twelve year old keeping venomous snakes in fishtanks, what could possibly go wrong?

Ayam Cemani hen and rooster. Got some pics in the sun the other day

I love that last close-up!

Seeing all these beautiful breeds going for great prices on eBay(hatching eggs) makes me want to try my hand at shipped eggs, BUT I know I need more experience with incubating first & I need money to spare. Still, it's fun to think about hatching out breeds that I can't find locally. :)
