UofA update:
#1 egg hatched successfully - its a splash
#2 egg had not progessed, chick (a black) was totally shrink wrapped. Thanks to all of you I knew what to do & its out and fluffed out under mom but really weak. I will be surprised if it survives the night though.
#3 egg had no movement & i saw yellow when i candled so I cracked it open. Chick (a blue) was fully formed but had not absorbed any yolk. A late quitter.

There were 5 blues, 4 splash, & 3 blacks total. Doing well are 4 blues, 3 splash, 2 blacks. Iffy is a splash & a black.

Nice fertility for your birds Ron!

At the egg farmers place, Jeremy is feeding them an Organic Non soy non corn feed. Somewhere I read that soy can hurt fertility.

I got to see my first batch of wild pheasants this year. There were 5 & they were a couple weeks old. Flew across the road in front of me, following mama.

We have a wild pheasant living in the field next to our house. Noisy thing, he is!

Ron - The FBCM cockerel that I sold at about 6 or 7 weeks old had no red on his neck that I noticed, but he was DEFINITELY a boy.

That can come much later. Its the co!or that gives it away that red if its a girl it should be laying. But it ain't crowed yet!

Hi likely has some now. That would be the next thing to look for.

The chick is 8 to 10 weeks old?

Lets hope for a pullet!

Unfortunately they take some time to lay their first eggs but crowing can start at about the age yours is.

On another note, I'm still holding out hope that this one is a girl. Mostly because she acts very much like a girl(has never walked upright) and her brother that was the same age had HUGE combs and wattles two weeks ago, while hers are just starting to come in. I dunno...I'm thinking she's a girl but we'll see. I'm hoping.
