I had it in one of my kids toys that was the right height but did not have the legs taped. It sure was squaking it's head off!
They do pretty much look like blood rings, but as long as they don't smell or weep it won't hurt anything to leave them in another week or so. If you run out of room and they haven't changed or they don't pass the sniff test, then yes, discard.
Oh I hope our story ends as well as yours did! The yeast is a good idea. I made a run to JS West and they had neither Nutri-drench nor Polyvisol. I was sad. So I'm going to be creating a home-made drench. It has until Friday PM for a miracleAwww, I had a star gazer d'Anver chick (thiamine deficiency) and gave her Poly Visol, B12 liquid, yeast mixed with water (high in B vitamins) scrambled egg and water. I had her in a container padded with a wash cloth so she wouldn't fall over. On the 3rd day she jumped out of the cup and joined the other chicks. It was like a miracle. She is going on 2 years old now and her name is Star.
Good luck with your chick!

Molasses. That's a good idea too.Nutri is a food based vitamin thing, it has molasses products init so a, its tasty and b, it has trace selenium in it to go with the es and a lot of bs. Just seems to work very well on chicks for me, so I use it with problem children

Quote: I bought some new Vetwrap ans was able to "hobble" it (that's an understatement. There is the poor thing.

She seems pretty comfortable, so I will leave her in this over night at least. I hobbled forst, but then both legs stuck out behind. So I moved both legs into the right posotions and then made a harness of sorts to keep the lgs in a normally bent position. The I put a belt aroung the cup to keep her from popping up and out and undoing the whole thing. I gave her the Nutridrench on a toothpick and then followed it up with a few drops of water. I set the little cup under the front edge of the brooder plate so she can stay warm enough without overheating. She is sooo tiny it is hard to handle her to get her treated. I sure hope this works!
