It can and I do not have much natural shade in my yard. temps get to the high ninety's quite frequently according to the monitoring sight my place always feels really hot during those times.

I think my birds do not know what to make of near 100 one day and 60 some odd the next morning.

I make sure they have cool water to drink. When it gets hot I usually bring out a dog dish of cool water a couple of times during the height of the heat
I bought sun shades from Home Depot. They block 85% of the sun. I have set up three sets of Orbit Misters and have them set on a timer. If the day is going to go over 100, I set the start time for when it gets to 90. The timer goes for 4 hours, so if it is still hot when I get home, I run it a bit longer. On days that will go below 90 quickly, I will set it for less than 4 hours.

I use sand in the runs so any moisture will not make mud and the mister cools down the air up to 20 degrees. The sun shade and the misters have kept my heat sensitive birds doing well this year and June was much hotter than normal this year.

My problem is the small footprint of my back yard where if I put up that shade for the run I will block all the sun to my garden. Im trying to get the sand into the run just too hot to work outside when I have the time. My daughter is responsible for the cool down routine when Im at work. Its not always easy to remember when the AC in the house makes it comfortable.

That makes sense!

How is the Garden this year?

Its coming along in fits and starts. The yo-yo weather patterns have not helped things too much. I just got my first Cantaloupe the other day and it was good. Finally harvested the potatoes. Bell peppers are coming along nicely. Squash not doing so nice this year I think where I moved them too isnt working.

Onions went to seed really fast this year. My cherry tomatoes are very small this year. They seem to ripen too quickly. Whereas my romas and others are not bearing as much fruit as last year and taking forever to ripen.(What I dont lose to rats)

Asparagus bed is not as productive this year (2nd year in) Strawberries had all kinds of problems and have died off again.
Time to start thinking about my august plantings.

I believe she is a splash. Do you know what color her parents were?
Unfortunately, no. I bought hatching eggs & there was a bit of a language barrier. They did not seem inclined at all for me to see their flock.
I had not seen a splash marked like her before. It's like someone shook pepper on her in addition to only 3-4 larger marked feathers.

I took nine of CaliChicks silkie eggs to the State fair for the hatchery display, when I left this afternoon, eight had hatched and the last was pipped and actively working on getting out.

Silkie chicks are always a hit!
