California - Northern

Intersting eggs...especially that top middle one. It almost looks like it was decorated.
Right?!
She has similar patterns but it varies all the time. I think she originated by way of Hangtown and/or juststruttin; she and her sisters were hatched by Phage in San Diego.
Thanks to those who have interesting varieties to share!

Hi,

We are in Palo Alto California raising beautiful chickens.
We got our first two eggs today, you would have thought it
was christmas by the way I reacted.

We are looking to re home Clyde as Palo Alto doesn't allow roosters.
Any ideas welcome.

Merry Christmas! Happy Easter Egg hunting in the future =)

I hope that is the case. This is my first of the breed. Was hoping for Blue laced and pullets. I got this cockerel and a splash that faded and died at a few weeks old. He has basically no tail feathers so I that seems pretty weird at 12 weeks
my BLRW roos always take a long time to develop tail feathers and even their mixed offspring roos do too.

This is the BLRW cockerel that is feathering out wierd. He is 12 weeks old as of yesterday but his feathering is very patchy. Any suggestions on what might be causing this? He is the only one with this prolema dn even younger birds have more feathering than him. The Mottled AM EEs in the picture are about 10 days younger.

He still has one more major molt to go through. What you see here is not the final look. Expect a bunch of feathers and a completely different looking boy between 20 to 30 weeks old.

He looks good so far, just in that dinosaur phase.

Would you tell mine to stop too? I am tired of screaming, puff balls hogging the nesting boxes!

I have one in each nest box, so the other girls are laying under the coop, where I can barely reach after half crawling in!

The first egg is golden!

A craig's list add is a good place to re home cockerels. There is a feed store in the bay area that takes them too.

Well finally got a chicken to Necropsy. Drove her in as she was on her way out. I have lost about 19 not including all my hatchlings. They all have meriks. and somehow despite my use of DE daily in feed got Cecal and Coccidia. All the poop looks normal to me. This makes no sense. The ducks are unscathed. mostly hens and pullets I am loosing, along with all my chicks naturally hatched. I bleached the heck out of the feeders, nests, pens, barn.. I have had these birds 4 springs ago. Hatched and raised brought in a few new here and there. This hear I brought in more new than normal for laying purposes and building up my lemon Cuckoo Oprington stock. Most of them are gone but for a few hens and 4 roosters. I never got to sell any because they have been sickly to a point. its like 1-4 a week drop. maybe 1-2 weeks no body died.

So I am treating the parasite issue, and am going to try coconut meal which has a chemical in it that fights herpes virus. Maybe I can spare a few. I don;t know where it came from :/ Maybe wild birds lack of rain drawing then to our water. And i did find bird lice on them a bit ago. Dusted them and they are gone now.. but that's about the time the death rate picked up.
