The Texas A&M quail are funny. When you first go to the pen, they're as jumpy and excitable as the others, but after a few seconds they're all "to heck with that, that's hard work" and plop back down. @Audio51 and the others who raise them, how would I sex them to try to keep a pair? Are they visually sexable by pattern/color like other cots, or do I have to try the vent puffy-ness/foam sexing methods when they're mature? I definitely want to keep a pair or trio of the brown around, and will probably be tempted to keep more.
I heard back from the breeder, he said he did have heavy losses from one brooder batch and asked me to let him know what the necropsy said. He also offered to replace them, but we're going to be up in Sacramento doing neurology stuff with my daughter the next two days so I can't take him up on that right away.
Tell me I am not the only one who gets really, really nervous leaving the birds to be taken care of by someone else? I know my little brothers will come over and take care of them, but I hate it anyway.
