Im Finally satisfied enough with my chickens security that I can comfortably ask...I'm looking for a couple of pullets in the Yosemite area to replace the two hens I lost last month. Barnyard mutts are OK or good breeds for the right price. Just trying to stay away from perpetuating hatchery stock from my local feed store

Those are brown red OEGB chicks. My nankins look kind of buff when they hatch. I gave Lual so many breeds to hatch, it is no wonder she could not identify all the babies. lol

Here are pics of my broody breaking bantam babies...Assorted feather legs SR. I think I got a mix of Cochin and Brahma. It would be fun to read any guesses/predictions on future coloring.

There are two little mottled looking ones like this

Two with black backs creamy bellies and silvery grey in between like this

Mama Stella so happy to get off the air and on to the chicks.

And Two Wild Type but in Silver and Black with creamy white faces

Love to hear any feed back you may have! Thanks

I will like to make an order for eggs to be shiped into my country for me but i don't know who to contact and what procedure to follow. I am in college and when i am through with college, i will like to raise my own poultry farm.
hey! your best bet is to find eggs in your country. It is very hard to get eggs from other places, they dont ship well and hatch worse. Learn to hatch on cheap loca eggs, then go from there!

Dear Kim and Walt,

I made  a mistake on my photo files. I apologize for the mistake. I found the correct Nankin chick photos. Even though the photos were wrong, still, Walt has beautiful Nankins.

Lual
Thank you Lual. I sent a Nankin to live in San Francisco yesterday. That will be the last I sell until I hatch some.

Walt

lots of fun last night. maybe Brown Red Ameraucana in my car port brooder. about 3am large boom. power line down. luckily it woke me and i got the generator going.
had a ton more rain today from around 10-2 still raining though not the deluge we had.
I dug some bamboo earlier today at a few friends for my grove.
I have a few kinds out there now including
Black , Black Stripe and Henon ( all three of these are in the black bamboo family Phyllostachys Nigra. ) black is shorter narrower black canes. Black Stripe is a form of Henon these last too are considered timber bamboo get tall and have nice size dense canes . great for coop building and construction.
The last one I got today was another Phyllostachys . its Phyllostachys Vivax " Huangwenzhu its another timber variety which can get 70 ft with 5" wide canes. not as good of wood as the Henon or black Stripe but very pretty. I probably won't plant this one yet till I decide where to put it. I have pretty good area for my grove. Its real wet on the bottom and will have goats so it won't run where its too wet. plus the goats would get anything down there. on the west and north side its to dry and won't spread where its not irrigated there.

I have a few clumping clumping kinds i will probably divide and plant in the grove too.

I have black bamboo that has lived its whole life in a pot. My husband is afraid to plant it in the ground as he is worried it will spread too much. What is the best way to keep it under control?

well keep in mind it only grows where it has moisture but not too wet. only way to be sure is too trench around it and add a barrier. like pond liner . go down about 18" to 2 feet but if you plant it somewhere with some drip emitters it should stay in check. I love it thou. it can grow where ever it wants

It is beautiful! Love the black canes. We bought it more than 11 years ago from a local nursery that was going out of business in Kenwood (Sonoma county) when we lived there. My childhood home in Berkeley (bordered the Berkeley Rose garden) had a large grove of giant Bamboo. It was awesome! Everyone wanted to come take cuttings to make fishing rods. What a mess it made of the lawn with all the fast growing shoots!

Thanks for the planting tips!
