OMG - these duck are taking forever to zip.
All day & there's only 1 that's 1/3 zipped.
I keep whistling at the incubator to cheer them on.
Somebody please yell at me to sit on my hands.

Sit on your hands!

Ducks do sem to take longer...but the shells are generally thicker and tougher. The strongest ones make it!

I am going to order a Brinsea Mini Advance on Friday

I am feeling the need to be able to check fertility with my NH and my Bantam pens and I haven't had sufficient broody cooperation. I have one girl right now and if tradition holds she will shortly be joined by her broody partner but I am holding them off with golf balls waiting for my Urch Houdan chicks.

Plus you people are always so generous when you ship eggs, you send me more than a girl can handle so I need a spot for the overflow...7 egg capacity is perfect.

Just thought I would share that news...knew hardly anyone else would get it!
I absolutely LOVE my Brinsea Mini Advance. I am glad it is so small so I don't go nuts with the chicks (although I did end up also letting one broody hatch a nest last year as well). My pre-Easter 'test' hatch is half-pipped right now. Exciting!

I finally have 3 pips on my muscovy duck eggs! Yay!
Go peepers!
Yay! They must seem like they take FOREVER to hatch, I get antsy just waiting three weeks for chicks!

Sit on your hands! But only until there are ducklings to take pictures of;).

Dag-nab-it, my broody quit her nest today. She also ate another egg. I don't think the remaining 5 will hatch even in the incubator but ill try anyway.

And then, the sheriffs came by to let us know that the state wants to put a 3-time felony convicted rapist in a house on our street when he's released from prison soon.
Um, NO! Our whole neighborhood is planning to show up at a local meeting next Thurs.
What's particularly egregious to me is that the state will pay the homeowner $3,500 a month for him to live there (2878 sq ftt, 4-bd, 3-ba) for ONE GUY.
Ah, so that's why the state's going broke.

That is terrible Lisa May. Yes, other people's money spends very easily. Kern

:celebrate Congrats! That's so exciting. What are you going to hatch first?

How are they doing? Any hatch yet?

I just read a post about hovobater heating unevenly and checked mine. The right side of the bater was 99 but the left was 103.5 that's usually what I use for hatching so I don't have to take apart the Brinsea to clean it....

Feeling grrrrrrrr.

But here are the babies that hatched I out despite what a bad hen I make.

I will hatch some from my NH pen but the plan is to use it only for specific pre sold hatches and for situations like last spring when I ordered 10 eggs and a generous BYCer sent 18 which was way more than my broody could handle. It will be used primarily as a broody back up.

Adorable!!! I need me some Pita Pintas!

I think I need another bator too. I have my Brinsea Octagon 20 Adv full of duck and goose eggs, my Farm Innovator full of CCL, OE, Bresse, Delaware, Buckeye, Silkie and a few others, and my Hovabator is full of quail eggs. I just set up by ancient Hovabator to hatch in. I went down to a friends to puck up some hatchling CCL pullet and she sent me home with a dozen assorted hatching eggs. Then I me hoe to find another friend had left bout 30 eggs on my front porch to hatch......
YEAH!!!!

Everyone needs some Pita Pintas! You will love them when you get them. This will be my first incubator I borrowed a LG Still air a couple of years back and the results were underwhelming, partly it was the bator but mostly it was me. I have used broodies since but sometimes things happen and I kind of never want to miss another Easter HAL on account of broody non-cooperation. Agree 7 eggs at a time is perfect. I can do custom hatches for people and keep my numbers from going through the coop roof

I am going to set it up in the back of my closet. The temp is steady in there though cool. Good Luck with your pre Easter test hatch! What are you hatching??
