California - Northern

And then Hope just died. :( Losing Hope does make me sad. She was our comeback kid. All the other chickens, except Sleepy (who has been off longer than Hope) are fine. Sleepy is still kicking around. Sent off the necropsy today so hopefully I will find out this week what's up with my peeps. I would love to have some answers. They all have fresh water, fresh food, misters to stay cool in the heat...they can free range and they love hiding under the fruit trees picking at fresh fallen pears.

Anyhow. :) Hope everyone else is doing good! See my monster duck egg?

That was our first duck egg sized duck egg! All the rest are medium sized chicken egg sizes up until today when some kicked down that fatty. :D

Anyone else looking forward to fall and pumpkins and wood smoke and orange leaves?

I am so sorry you lost Hope.

It always makes me sad to lose a chicken.

Yes, it is time for Fall--Saturday is the first day of fall.

It is time for this!

We more exciting news today. Got my first rhodebar egg. Man, been thinking that one was coming for weeks and weeks! Way to go girl. And my SFH broody seems to doing just fine. I really want to candle them to see if they are developing. So weird that she doesn't have any of her own ggs. Just the ones I stuck under her.

Congrats....

How are my flocks doing there?

Amy Beth - I can't help but wonder with the losses you've incurred are also timed with when you started free ranging them. Is there any mushrooms or anything out where they are ranging?

Dang that quail is cute - and with the quail egg posted recently...........................gosh I want pretty eggs like that.

Corwin, the SG Dorking Cockerel that went to a person at the Small Animal Exchange, was good with my layer flock. The day I took him to Guinda, I started collecting eggs. I set 12 of them and 10 were fertile. 5 of them hatched over night!

Another was zipping when I left for work and both of the eggs from my Blue Marans have pips.

OOOHH, I looked them up because I didn't know what they look like, wow, they're beautiful! Female chicks are $49! Congrats on the egg, they're pretty darn close to gold with girls 'em!

Hi Jeff!

Congrats on the first egg!

Are you going to work with improving them--I read abut crossing them back to SQ RIRs. I have three SQ RIR pullets, so if you have a nice Rooster maybe he can visit my RIRs one day(when they start laying. They are only 12 weeks old). If you wanted a SQ RIR Rooster, the guy I got these from said he would send me more hatching eggs this Fall. I could get you a Rooster from those eggs...

Everyone always needs more Roosters right?
