I've got an incubator!



Thanks to Ron's suggestion, I called the Ag extension, and they let me borrow one, even though we're not a 4H family. I've got it set up and stabilizing now, and will put the eggs in tonight.

So, when I do set them tonight, should I lay the eggs on their sides and rotate them an odd number of times a day, or cut down an egg carton and tilt it back and forth an odd number of times? There's no turner. Also, dirty mama feet have made the eggs much less clean than they were. Should I clean them, like I would if they'd beee covered in egg, or just flick any thick bits off? For figuring out when lock down is, should I just add a day or two? The eggs will have been cold for over 36 hours once the incubator has been running for 12 hours. While I've not been warming the eggs, I have been tilting the carton I brought them into the house in every few hours.

They have been shipped so they need to be in cartons big end up. The cartons should have the tops cut down to allow humidity to move in the incubator. Turn them by tilting the incubator one side using a book They are supposed to go 45 degrees.

At the age of the eggs, those that do not die from being below 81 ish degrees will not have a detrimental effect from being cold. Candle them in a couple of days to see what is going in inside the eggs.

I just picked up 3 little White Leghorns from the feed store for Neal ( He has lost one to foxes) Im thinking of naming them
India Tango, Romeo Alpha, Sierra X-Ray. (they arrived at the feed store 4/15)

though you probably dont want feed store chicks the feed store down here just got a bunch of buff orps.
