They have been shipped so they need to be in cartons big end up. The cartons should have the tops cut down to allow humidity to move in the incubator. Turn them by tilting the incubator one side using a book They are supposed to go 45 degrees. Thanks!
So, when I do set them tonight, should I lay the eggs on their sides and rotate them an odd number of times a day, or cut down an egg carton and tilt it back and forth an odd number of times? There's no turner. Also, dirty mama feet have made the eggs much less clean than they were. Should I clean them, like I would if they'd beee covered in egg, or just flick any thick bits off? For figuring out when lock down is, should I just add a day or two? The eggs will have been cold for over 36 hours once the incubator has been running for 12 hours. While I've not been warming the eggs, I have been tilting the carton I brought them into the house in every few hours.
Welcome! What type of chickens are you looking for? There are a lot of different breeds being raised by people on this threadI am looking for buff orpingtons and Jersey giants.
