Interesting egg this morning. I collected my first "Fart egg" or "Wind Egg" yesterday. I was making scrambled eggs this morning and decided, since it likely did nor even contain a yolk, I would add it the bowl. When I cracked it open, I saw blood. Not a "meat spot" or "blood spot" * I have Marans so I have seen lots of those), but frank red blood and what looks like vessels. I do not have any roosters......only a lot of young Cornish X cockerels about 7-8 weeks old, so I am wondering what this could be from. There are also some changes to the appearance of the yolk...whitish areas that I typically see when I eggtopsy and the embryo dies very young

Contents of Fart Egg, normal Ameraucana egg and Fart egg shell. It is about 1/2 the size of the normal egg

There are cases of parthenogenesis but they are rare and would only apply if the egg were in the hen several days before being laid.

It is likely just a blood spot.

That is good to hear.  I have no idea who laid the egg so wouldn't know who to worry about anyway. Thanks, Ron!

I know who layed this one =)

Here are three pictures of my wife giving our spoiled adult chickens some re-hydrated meal worms yesterday late afternoon. These chickens don't know how good they have it. They get let out almost every day to romp and have fun. Kern

Chickens, fruit trees and Irises! That's my kind of yard

One BYCer had a toddler that named ALL the hens "Fred" and the roo "Rosie" or some such feminine name! Lesson - have the toddler name only ONE bird and you get to name the rest!
