My call babies about 3 wks old today in the North State.

Well on day 11 on my second hatch ever after removing clears and blood rings Im down from 15 to 9 CLB
Ill let all go on to lockdown as I think this silly incubator runs low temp a bit. (Hatched at day 22-24 last hatch)

I have 13 barred hollands shipped from LA in as well but most look clear Im leaving them all in through the entire process hoping for some

Also have a number of delaware and RIR eggs in as well removed clears and blood rings on those as well
of 48 im down to 34 (9 CLB 13 Barred Hollands, 4 RIR and 8 Delaware)

Lots of iffy eggs in there we will see at lock down.

Hoping for at least 3 barred hollands 4-5 CLB something in the RIR and 4 or so Delawares.

I think it pays to be cautious when removing eggs as well. Blood rings are very clear and I feel better giving the babies a chance. We can always see cracked eggs when candling and of course those go. Good luck.

I had such a wonderful chat with Neal thezooman yesterday. The vast extent of knowledge was refreshing. Experience not simply airy opinion is a great example of why this thread and you all on it are invaluable.

Turkey update. Three more are out of the shell but soooo week I'm watching to see if they make it and fluffy up....

Have a great day everyone!

Yeah doesnt hurt to let them go especially on the really rare ones.

The Delawares are still mixed pen dels so we will see how they turn out. We have hatched 3 so far out of the pen (all 1 at a time) and are all very pretty so far.

Would love to come up to your area some time I love it up there

It is paradise in all ways except the pressure and oxygen problems for hatching. Oh and the predators! Chicken people are always welcome. Haha. We will show you the best hiking trails and beaches . You won't count as tourist. Lol

Is this the babies intestine. I'm upset! I placed it in a teacup to give it time to ???? Idk. Is there anything I can do? Bleck....

You are doing the right thing. It looks like where the chicks absorbs the yolk. I would put some ointment or vetricyn on it--It usually recedes within a day or so. Until then, the other chicks can peck it.

Agreed on waiting to throw out if you're not sure. I believe it's usually the blood ring ones that explode, but i think they have to get really rotten first. If it's a blood ring, the ring gets thicker and thicker and no other veining. But safe is better than sorry

From the pic, it doesn't look like a lost cause. I use Vetrycin on that stuff and it works 99.9% of the time to prevent infection. The problems I have had are when the yolk isn't absorbed. I've separated and all that, mine never make it.

On my side of the fence: Got the 4 ducklings a couple of weeks ago. 3 of the Hybrid 300 layers and a Pekin named "Shantih" . I got these for the eggs mind you, but I think I'm allergic to duck eggs. After the intense stomach stabbing pains and extreme nausea, I do recall that chicken eggs over medium irritate my mouth a little as well. The eggs were good, gathered daily and refrigerated, and extremely clean. No one else has an issue but me.
So the duck muscovy hen decided she didn't want to raise my layer ducklings. So I"m raising these messy boogers for eggs I can't eat . It would be worth it because they're so cute, but they're so darned afraid of me as well.

Yeay!!! My cute little hen Sky (will be nine on the on the 27th) has gone broody!! It started at the beginning of last week and now she is in the coop all day everyday! She barely comes out to stretch her feet!! What should I do? is it too soon to give her fertile eggs? if not can she hatch guinea and chicken eggs at the same time? will she even take to the guinea eggs? should I wait it out to see if she looses interest?
Thanks for answering all my questions!
