Thank you so much!I had forgotten about this, but I made this for my flock years ago. I trust this breeder.

I am relieved. And this is another piece of learning experience for me!You are probably correct. Treat with the copper sulfate to kill the mold(wherever it is) and give the ones exposed the herbal mash Kim posted.
The Necropsy saved you a lot of grief.

I'm sorry she is not doing better, but glad she isn't worse? <3ok, well purples isn't any worse. I still hear nothing in her breathing, and her eyes are clear ( or what i can see of them. She didnt like me exposing them, however, so it should still mean they hurt.
The only other symptom I have seen is she is doing something with her beak, like ya know when you go to taste something and you purse your lips and run it over your tounge? She is doing that, opening and closing her beak and it makes little smacking noises. Still has no interest in food or water. But more irate when I try and force water on her.
I did not find anything looking up chickens ans smacking noises.... somehow i'm hoping it makes more sense to you all.
Zoo, i'm so happy your problem is treatable! If I was in a better mood today id be dancing!

Aww I'm sorry.here is an update, baby chick from this morning died whie I was at work. i caught the one hen not doing so well and put her in a cage. she is skinny and I looked at her eyes they are swollen closed. I put some worm meds in her water til I can get to the feed store. but i was thinking, ( hubby would say oh no, LOL). the water I have for them I don't change daily cuz it was only 6 chicks and 2 hens. and the 5 chicks died with no warning. with this nice warm weather maybe a bacteria in the water??? I went around to the others they are all fine and put ACV in their water. those 2 hens are my front yard girls. they don't go anywhere and with only 2 hens and 6 chicks i didn't change the water daily like I do the others.
I do daily water changes so I don't have any experience with otherwise. Hopefully someone can help there. <3Fungal infections can be difficult to treat and normally respond best if treatment is started as early as possible but it is possible to treat them. Check out this thread on BYCI wonder if it could have been the fill dirt we bought and used in the coop and run. The more I read the more I am not sure it's the misters...(altho I am sure they didn't help!)...all that I read I can't find anything that says what to do with the sick ones. Is says in several articles hat treatment is useless (to the chicken) and to clean the coop/run and use copper sulfate etc. If there is nothing to help with the sick ones...will they get better or stay sick? It just doesn't say anywhere!
Great idea! I will be making those for sureCongratulations on all the new chicks......but what the heck do ya'll do with ALL those chicks you hatch???? I'm trying to figure out what to do with all the potential roos I'm going to get from the 20+ chicks I have!
With Halloween coming up I thought I'd share this deviled egg idea. We're going to have all 5 grandkids this weekend. My daughter and her husband are doing the Tough Mudder in Tahoe this weekend. I thought the kids would get a kick out of this.

The necropsy of the chicken I sent in stated there necrotizing...which I assume means dead or dying tissue. My male that is down can hobble. I let him out of the crate today to peck the ground. He is very shaky and falls and spends a lot of time 'panting'. My tiny little pullet can get around, does forage, does eat, does drink...her eyes are still swollen but she is hanging in there surprisingly. But the male- he looks likes he feel miserable. Do you think treatment could help him? He's not one of my 'keepers' as it is though. So even were I to treat him and he be well- he'd eventually be processed for the table. So I need to weigh the odds of him recovering, with treatment, cost of treatment, length of treatment...and my ability to still consume him within about 4-5 weeks total. The pullet- if she could pull through would not be processed- but I hope would be one of my layers.Fungal infections can be difficult to treat and normally respond best if treatment is started as early as possible but it is possible to treat them. I had three ducks with bad fungal infections last year and I was able to pull all three out of it. I ended up having to use a combination of oxine and antibiotics because they had developed secondary infections but they all lived!
