Anybody in need of a chick fix?????? I hatched these Salmon Faverolles and Barbed Bantam Cochins, last week. Oh there is a few EEs in there too. Didn't have good luck with the fertility on my Wheaten Amerucanas this year maybe 20 % hatch. So they are running loose with all my roosters ,marans, EEs, Amerucanas, nakednecks The eggs are beganing to show promise. Anyway these are cute little guys I am so addicted to hatching eggs CRAZY CRAZY
So cute. I've yet to incubate chicken eggs-only quail eggs. I'm looking forward to trying though once weather cools here, maybe late Fall if we're lucky enough to even have an Autumn this year in Bakersfield.

Venetia out with the new peepers.
How cute:)

Well, it's not all sunshine and rainbows in chickenland. Noticed a bald patch on my splash girl a couple days ago. So I made her a chicken saddle. Went to put it on her and discovered one whole side is flayed and gross. Sprayed her with Vetericyn and started calling vets. 10 vets latter, I was SOL. Even though most do see chickens, every last one had no Avian specialist working today. Finally, out of sheer desperation, I called @TheKeeper. I figured she could at least advise me. And she did! She's the absolute best!!!!

Still worried about my favorite chicken, but not panicked anymore.
Oh so are chicken saddles those cute little "dresses" I see in pix on the hens? I think I need some of those for my girls as a couple have bald spots on their backs. Can you show me a pic of one you made so maybe I can whip some up for my girls too? Thanks. I'd sure appreciate it:)

Sorry for goung backwards a ways here
i get it from the mill. Soy free layer is about $25 a bag, I think chick start is $27. It's close to those numbers.
They are 50 lb bags. I love it but am inclined to try something cheaper.

I agree on double checking. It should be in their registers as tax free but years ago I was taxed on chicken feed.

So are you saying that fowl feeds are not taxable? We buy all our feeds from TSC and I'm sure they tax it. Maybe I just misunderstood what you meant. But with chickens, ducks, quail, rabbits and a goose, TSC has become our second home. Think the IRS would let us claim it as so? Haha At any rate, the taxes alone adds up to quite a sum after a while.

Well she seems to have escaped anything overly serious the cuts are small and loss of a number of feathers but otherwise seems ok.  Moving around rather gingerly but seems interested in food and water so I think she will be ok. Will know more tomorrow probably.
That's great news. How is she doing now? Sorry I'm so behind on posts as we've been gone a week in the mountains without cell service. Trying to catch up now:) Sure hope she is okay.
