and THAT is why we LOVE chickens!!!

Well, it's not all sunshine and rainbows in chickenland. Noticed a bald patch on my splash girl a couple days ago. So I made her a chicken saddle. Went to put it on her and discovered one whole side is flayed and gross. Sprayed her with Vetericyn and started calling vets. 10 vets latter, I was SOL. Even though most do see chickens, every last one had no Avian specialist working today. Finally, out of sheer desperation, I called @TheKeeper . I figured she could at least advise me. And she did! She's the absolute best!!!!

Still worried about my favorite chicken, but not panicked anymore.

Oh no! Thank goodness The Keeper came to the rescue!

My wheaten rumpless araucanas hen and a roo on loan from a friend. His hackles look odd because he's wearing a No-Crow collar.
Pray for lots of fertile eggs!

I'm sick of broodies! I have 5 right now, plus the one that is off the nest with her babies. Ugh!
The cooler weather seems to have broken most of mine. I wish that and the weather would stick! I do have one Splash Orp hen that is still spending a lot of time in the box. I thought about giving her the Serama chicks (11 of them plus 1 Mille Fleur D'Uccle) but they are soooo tiny! I have a pen for broodies and nest chicks out in the main pen, but I think they would slip right thru the 1x1 mesh

Sorry for goung backwards a ways here

They say you can pick it up from the mill. I may all them today to get prices
I live in Stockton.
i get it from the mill. Soy free layer is about $25 a bag, I think chick start is $27. It's close to those numbers.
They are 50 lb bags. I love it but am inclined to try something cheaper.

I just bought 50 lbs of chick feed. It was $53 with tax.

Check on it--some places charge tax by mistake so you should get it back from them. I have had this happen to me before.
I agree on double checking. It should be in their registers as tax free but years ago I was taxed on chicken feed.

right ?!??
I have been breaking them up for the past few months. Even non broody breeds are broody!
I have a small broody pen but when it hits 100 degrees they would be frying in there!
Leghorns are looking pretty tempting right now (ok, that may be a little extreme ) ;)
