Are you finding wheaten/ blue wheaten are easier to sex earlier in the am's?
I've heard that but wasn't sure.
The bbs have given me a run for my money!
I have a 4 month old I swore up and down was a blue girl. Now I find its a boy.
I even did crop surgery to save it because I only had 2(I thought) blue girls in this batch, haha!
(((hugs)))![]()
Oh, that's hard. I've never had to put a chick down yet.
Your splash orp hen is doing great.
The 12 stitches are mostly holding.
If I can keep her from getting infected, I think she'll be just fine.
She's a sassy thing - she must be feeling pretty good to scold me as she does.![]()
i can likely pair them with a hen too ( might be frizzle or showgirl) if you are looking at breeding too! but that would abe a lto of driving
Just Vetericyn topically so far.are you giving antibiotics? Or just topically?

The OEs hatched 04/20 & 4/21so they're 1 week shy of 3 months. All 3 are OEs. First two look like boys and the third (last picture) is definitely a pullet.
You got lucky with more Ameraucana girls than boys. I have been hatching mostly boys this year. The 2 Silkies are from my eggs? Blue/buff? Porcelain? I would like to see pictures of the d'Anvers and Silkies.![]()
Quote: Yeah....I figured it was something that I wasn't going to be able to fix. The pred was a last ditch effort and I figured I had nothing to lose. He started out with just a slight tilt and I started giving the nutridrench when I first noticed that, but within a week he couldn't stand.
Hope you find them a good home...Anyone need bielfelder or golden cuckoo Marans roosters? I have maybe 3 of each that I will need to rehome! Small rehoming few or maybe trade for chicks or anything poultry! 2094814058
Well, today I became a real chicken keeper. Got home from work and one of the three day olds was dead (looked like it got stepped on) and one was squashed with its organs hanging out but still alive. So I snapped its neck with a kitchen knife. *sniffle* Now I need a drink.
Oh, no! How awful! I have lost a few that got squish under the broody., but I do keep them separated from the rest of the flock for the first week or so at least. Then I just let them out during the day and back in the broody coop at night for another week or so. Mine get locked into the secure part of the pen with coop access at night and as soon as thy hear me walk out of the house in the morning they swarm the gate out to the main pen where I feed them. I fill the feeder fist and then stand well to the side when I open the gate. I would get trampled otherwise. Some of them even come flying out!
Quote: Very nice!
I appreciate the explanation . Ya, I'm having a time with these bbs. They're from 2 different lines so some boys are extremely obvious. While the others are not.Wheaten/blue wheaten Ameraucanas are able to be color sexed around 3 weeks of age. Sometimes sooner. Pullets stay solid cream color and the cockerels get dark patches of black and blue on the cream.
I had Lavender Ameraucanas and they were harder to sex. Looking at the combs can help sex them. Cockerels have 3 rows of peas and the pullets a single row. I saw your post on the Ameraucana thread asking for help sexing your blue Ameraucana and agree it is a cockerel. Sorry it didn't turn out to be a pullet for you after all you went through to save it.

chickens can have keflex and Amoxicillian (the people kind) just smaller amounts.Just Vetericyn topically so far.
I have Blu-Kote too - is that better?
I have Tylan 50 that I can give orally but not sure if I should unless she starts to look "droopy" or pale or weird poo (i.e., shows a need for it).
I can also get Terramycin if that's better but I thought it was weaker than Tylan 50.
I welcome any advice or pointers.![]()
