California - Northern

Looks like a clean legged bcm. Not to us standard we went french not English.

Peaches my sizzle clean necked showgirl passed last night. I'm guessing it got to hot he had a lot of bare spots so little hear control. He was my 3d gen sizzle boy out of freakazoid . he was the daddy of the amazing sizzle show girls a few have posted pics of. His backup turned out to be a girl so I just have his daughter and an unknown juvie left neither clean necked.

I was bawling like a little girl this morning

Sorry to hear you lost Peaches.

I'm in a suburb of Sacramento called Fair Oaks. ( BTW, my little hamlet is noted for its large feral chicken population.

We even have a chicken festival ) Moved up here from Anaheim in Southern California around 25 years ago. My late husband and I always thought of The Grapevine as the entrance to S. Cal proper.
Hi @Mommyhen1313

Post pictures of you chickens when you can!

That's sad. I'm sorry. Would you like the black sizzle to make up for it. The stink crowed this morning. That makes 8 silkie boys in a row.*(&%@#$.... I give up on broody silkie hunting. I'll never have one. So now that my scovie are laying I'm rooting for them to go broody by the spring. They are still the fave to watch in the yard. Second are the bourbon reds. 2 boys 2 girls

Does Trinket's baby go broody? Trinket is the best broody mama that I have. She is currently raising her 3rd clutch for this season. I was just curious to know if she passed on her broody gene.

Ouch! This is a rough town to live in if the heat is that hard on you. Sacramento is brutal and it seems like we're only 2 degrees cooler here. Course we've only been here a year. However I lived in Stockton when I was young (20s and 30s) and I remember a lot of really hot summers!

Yeah we tried hiking down to the river once. I have a bad back so navigating that current was not fun and then hubby slipped and sliced his foot open. We ended up in urgent care to get his foot stitched up. I don't think we'll try it again.

We wanted to go to the Party in the Park tonight but the heat beat us back into the air conditioning. Lol

We came from San Jose too! Well with a decade in Reno between there and Paradise. However I was born in So Cal. My family traveled between So Cal and Arizona til I was 9, when we moved to Santa Clara County, so I'm pretty used to the heat.
I was born in Red Bluff and lived in Corning back in 1981 when the record high was 121.9. Woodland is much cooler but still hot!

Quote: I do love a broody and have several. They generally make life much easier for me with raising chicks. But in this heat I have been running my girl out of the coop. They always want to be broody when the temps are sky-high! I am at least down to 1 with another leaning that way, but I would rather have them laying out in the yard than be in the coop right now. I have am 8" wide strip across the top that is opposite the window that I can flip down for more cross breeze and I will prop the lid to the nest box open a few inches when it is just warm, but once it gets over about 92-94 degrees out, everyone gets thrown out and the coop door closed.

Quote: Thank goodness it is starting to cool down a bit. Looks like low to mid 90s next week!

Whatever it was it looks like it went fast! The post is already down...

One of my hen turkeys laid a crazy-big egg today

Looks like a goose egg

Here is a normal one

And the 2 together

Plus the spots have height to them - yeeouch.

Wow! Poor girl! I has my first ever double yolker 2 days ago from one of my chickens. I have no idea who it was though.

The big one;

The one I have previously collected that looks the most like it in shape/color

The 2 together....

I have heard of Fair Oaks. I have 2 brothers in the Sacramento area...one in Elk Grove and one in Meadow Vista.

Quote: Pita Pinta chicks? They are adorable!!!!

Quote: WOW!!!!II I don't know how people can take that kind of heat! I have a Brother-in-Law whose family grew up in Red Bluff. I don't get much sympathy from him about the heat here in Paradise either....

Yes, Pita Pinta chicks are adorable for sure!

We moved to Woodland in 1992 and thought people were silly for thinking it was hot when it was only 105....Corning would be about 110 on the same day and the highs can be much higher that that.
