That was in Mountain View. Crazy expensive, huh?

Yes it is crazy! Check the price of organic free range eggs at walmart. They have a brand that they sell for $7.00 per dozen.
I've seen them for $7 a dozen locally here as well.
Even Costco sells their "better" eggs in the five per dozen range. Eggs are very expensive. The lowest cost store eggs are close to $3.00 per dozen.

Oh, no! Our little bantam cochin cockerel has officially changed from Truffles to Mr. T and has a definite Napoleonic complex going on. He has been the sweetest little guy and we knew almost from the beginning that he was a cockerel. We kept hoping that he would be the quiet kind. Today, he has been crowing almost non-stop since before I let the flock out of their coops. He was chasing the young Pita Pinta pullets all over the yard and being a bully. Where ever he went, the other birds ran from him. He did get a few pecks from the older hens who don't put up with any of that nonsense. He kept crowing right by me so I picked him up and he grabbed some skin on my arm and held on. Please tell me that it is raging hormones and will improve as he ages! I know that if he is crowing this much when DH comes home next weekend, the pressure will be on to take him to the farm. I just can't imagine the little fluff ball on the loose out there.

How old is he? If I remember he is right at that age where testosterone runs everything. He should calm down a bit. Ive had a few of my pita boys like that. It might be yorkie syndrome. Has to prove he is the 8lb rooster he thinks he is.

He is around 15 weeks old. He is currently patrolling the fence around our patio. He freezes in place and stares at me every time I look out the window. He might need a dog kennel in the garage at night and a later let out time in the morning.

First Pullet egg from my 22-23 week buff orps.

Probably from the sweetest one who has been squatting for more than a week now.

I was paying $10/doz for Eatwell Farm's eggs last year before I got my birds.
Before I got chickens again, I had been paying $7 for 24 organic free range at Costco! I don't know how local they are, but sure beats paying $20 for 5 doz for the over manufactured ones at the grocery store!

I was surprised that they are so much cheaper and I compared them to the ones I have at my house, they are all brown eggs, but they seem to be pretty well free ranged!

It's way to early to be up, but the last 4-H trip to State is here. 3 chickens and 4 pigeons spent the night in the van and are about to get a 3 1/2 hour ride North. At least we having poultry at State, they didn't think they were going to. They moved the location so I get to find the Blue livestock gate this morning!
