I seem to be Maran hatch challenged. I did manage to hatch 3 pullets (2 splash & 1 blue) from eggs that I got from Dawn and 1 FBCM pullet from eggs that I got from Shantih. Here are a few pics of the girls from Dawn.

The blue pullet does not have feathered legs.
The Blue hen I hatched from eggs that I got from Bev Davis doesn't have leg feathering, either. Bev focuses on egg color first and foremost, and she told me that one of her blue hens without leg feathering laid the darkest egg, so she kept her in the flock. My roosters all have good feathering, so it should express itself in most chicks. Since you are not breeding and just wanted egg color, this should be fine. And yes, I'll bet of the three pullets, she lays the very darkest egg! (Due to her [egg] genetics, not the lack of leg feathering, though!)

This splash pullet has a few dark markings on her other side but she is mostly white.
Nice back and very pretty head on this girl! Light markings always look very feminine to me...she looks very girlie!

My Wellsummers are photo bombers and I kept having to push them out of the way. This splash girl is the biggest and prettiest of the 3. Nice markings and legs. I like her fluffy butt! I have one with really distinct, stand-out markings and she just started to lay a nice dark egg. Can't wait to see your egg colors! Photo-bomber Wellie on the right is hysterical!

Does anyone know what could cause a chicken to go blind in one eye?

I had been treating one of my silkie hens for pussy/crusted shut eyes for about a week, and I started seeing major improvement a few days ago. They no longer get crusted shut, and no more discharge. But today I noticed one of her eyes now has a cloudy appearance in the pupil. I believe she is going blind.

It saddens me because I tried so hard to save her eyes, but now I want to know why? She had NO other symptoms other than her eyes. She is eating and drinking normally, and her dropping are normal.

Thanks

Yep, the 3 Wellies that I have are always right there when I bend down to take pics. They are sure that I have a treat for them! I have to push them out of the way in order to take pics of the other birds.

Injury or Mareks?

Poor thing!

I was thinking a foxtail type thing in the eye could be a possiblilty, but I never found one.

Is that a symptom of Mareks? Gosh I hope not.
It is probably a fox tail.

Markes causes blindness and a change in eye color. I do not see that it causes scabs in the eye though.

If it is not a fox tail, it can be Avian pox. Linda Hammid lives in Roseville and her chickens get Avian pox there. I think you are close to her actually.

An example of one chicken eye problem is Avian Pox. It is a viral disease that affects many chickens and can affect and be spread by wild bird populations. Blistery lesions are often around the eyes causing swelling with impairment of sight and blindness in severe cases.

If so, there is a vaccine that is applied every 6 months for Avian Pox.
