Ah, there's the rub... The deal was that I'd set (chicken) eggs only when Frieda goes broody, since, while she did great the one time I had local eggs for her, she failed with shipped eggs, and proved in July that she'll happily adopt chicks. She's still raising the July chicks, so who knows when she'll go broody again? Her pattern does seem to be that she lays for a month or two after being non-broody, though. If I were set up for quail, I'd get some of those and set them, since I can't give quail to Frieda to brood anyway

May try to talk my husband around to the logic that I need to test the 'bator to make sure I know what I'm doing--I do know someone I can get mix eggs from locally (the same lady I got Frieda's first eggs from) and see if I can sell them as day-olds.

Have any of you dealt with stick tight fleas? 2 of the barnyard mix young chickens at the farm where my breeding flocks are had them. 1 died and the other was treated and is so far okay. I've read that they are very hard to get rid of and can attach to all kinds of animals & humans, too. Quite a few of the mix chickens roost under trailers, in bushes, etc. I am assuming that we need to treat the ground, too, but I'm not sure how to accomplish that with 10 acres for them to roam on. Chris and Neal, you may not want to come to the farm until we get this problem taken care of if that's at all possible.

No, but you should not need to treat the entire property, just where the infested chickens were.

Do the dogs or any other animals have them?

I have a trio of Old English game bantams for sale.

The hens are 4 years old, and the rooster is 1 year. I was attempting to breed towards the Cuckoo variety, but unfortunately, I no longer have the time. The rooster is just finishing out his molt, and has only half of the tail feathers he normally does, but the photos I included are of him in prime condition.

I am asking $30 for all three. And they will not be separated.

PM me if you would like more info, or more pictures.
