Im having a blast too bad the roo will have to go soon. (Well not for him he gets a new flock of female pitas to look after)

Glad he's getting a home since he's such a good boy! My chicks have reached the stage where they are annoying all my older birds (1 is 8 weeks and 2 are 12 weeks). They've formed their own mini flock at this point. I'm glad the wyandottes accepted the younger leghorn since she's a singleton. Nothing I do seems to tame them though. They RUN from me. Even when I have treats. They just didn't catch on at all that I am the bringer of tasty things.

I can't picture chickens that don't come running when they see you. All of mine are pests and under foot whenever I go out in the backyard. Maybe just be persistent in offering treats. Mine love meal worms of course, but grapes they go nuts for also. Some pullets even fly at me and try and land on my head or shoulders. My observation is that chickens brains are so tuned to food that they will do almost anything if they think they are going to get something to eat that is special. Good luck taming them down. I can't picture chickens that don't come running when they see you. All of mine are pests and under foot whenever I go out in the backyard. Maybe just be persistent in offering treats. Will Sevin not work on these?

It kills the adults but then you need to treat them again to kill the new ones that have hatched and grown to maturity. I am hoping that the I G Regulator will work to keep the newly hatched ones from reaching sexual maturity. It is a pain to catch over 100 chickens and treat them with Sevin Dust. We treated the multiple roosting areas and under the storage containers with Permethrin but will probably have to do the whole thing over again after we process the extra cockerels. They have been getting on the kids, too, especially after they catch and hold the chickens for treatment.

My brooder-raised ones do come running. The broody-rasied ones do not. They skulk around the fringes. Very wild. The fact that momma trusts me didn't transfer at all. They know I equal food/treats, but they have never come within arm's reach, let alone eaten from my hand.
