They are a rare breed even in their native country of Spain. I'm doing my best to increase the number here in this country. There are several of us breeding them here in CA. They are excellent egg layers, good for meat, and very docile/friendly. I do sell my breeding culls for less because I want them to go to a good home.Pita Pintas are really pretty, I've only seen them for sale once around here $40 for a pair (hen and rooster) are they relatively rare?

They are quite rare. California happens to have become Pita Pinta central though (mostly do to @PetRock from what I can tell, LOL!), so we have ready access to them. Great birds for the warm valley locations from what I hear and very pretty.
Thanks, Walt. It worked to get rid of them on the birds. After processing the extra cockerels tomorrow, we plan on checking them again plus treating all coops.

It seems it's been a bad year for creepy crawlies.
Did you treat your birds every 2 weeks or only when they reappeared? The friend who owns the farm where my breeding chickens are housed also has ducks and turkeys. I better check to see if she has treated them, too. They have been on their guardian dogs, their cats, and their kids! What a job to treat so many animals!I fought them for about 6 months and Sevin was the only thing that worked here. I even had them on the waterfowl.

It has! I'm hoping for a cold winter this year to help reduce the insect population. It seems it's been a bad year for creepy crawlies.

I had two eggs laid without the shells last week, not sure which girl, but it was worrisome. Fortunately, no one got sick or acted too off. I hope your hen is OK.
