California - Northern

Pita Pintas are really pretty, I've only seen them for sale once around here $40 for a pair (hen and rooster) are they relatively rare?
They are a rare breed even in their native country of Spain. I'm doing my best to increase the number here in this country. There are several of us breeding them here in CA. They are excellent egg layers, good for meat, and very docile/friendly. I do sell my breeding culls for less because I want them to go to a good home.

I fought them for about 6 months and Sevin was the only thing that worked here. I even had them on the waterfowl.

Did you treat your birds every 2 weeks or only when they reappeared? The friend who owns the farm where my breeding chickens are housed also has ducks and turkeys. I better check to see if she has treated them, too. They have been on their guardian dogs, their cats, and their kids! What a job to treat so many animals!

I put it in the litter.

I had two eggs laid without the shells last week, not sure which girl, but it was worrisome. Fortunately, no one got sick or acted too off. I hope your hen is OK.

I had that problem with a few of my hens when they first started laying; I just increased their calcium and the problem went away.

Thanks for asking about my hen; she is doing ok. She seems to have some kind of digestion problem; she has lost a lot of weight and every once in a while her crop gets enlarged and she gets lethargic. She has vomited a few times also. The vet gave me some medicine for her which helps quite a bit. The vet didn't seem to think she was going to last too long but so far she is hanging on.

Laundry is finishing up here, and when it's done, I'm out to clean coops. Molting has made them look so nasty! It's time for a full clean out before winter! My broodies will be very unhappy to be displaced for nesting box cleaning. Cob webs are coming down too.
