Ive been feeding my molting birds and my 3 adolescent (almost 19 weeks) girls Feather Fixer for a couple of weeks now. How long before I should switch back to layer feed as some of them seem to be nearly filled back in again. I didn't get FF till they were well into molt. It has seemed to help and the birds seem to like it.

My plan is to let them finish the bag probably 4-5 days more then switch I dont really want to get another bag if they are going to be laying again soon.

My adolescent birds have started to fill out nicely. The Jersey Giant is nearly as big as the largest girls. The 2 EE's are looking nice too I suspect they may lay come late January.

Where do you buy Feather Fixer in the East Bay? I have one in a going through her first molt and she is looking kind of rough with pin feathers all over her head and the back of her neck. I wouldn't mind getting some extra protein in her.

If you can't find Feather Fixer then any high protein feed will work. Most All Flock is at least 16%. I use a Game Bird which is 18% (but some are as high as 22% which is great for feather growing but a little over-kill for all the time) or Broiler mix which is also 18% (if I can't find Game Bird). My flock has never looked better!

Hi all! I haven't been able to check in in quite some time. Taking care of my 82 yr old father and my husband who has early onset Alzheimers. Plus I went back to work part time. Most days I can't find time to sleep 6 hrs much less keep up with social media. But I wanted to say "Hi" to my fellow chicken peeps (I'm procrastinating on some chores that need to be done). I hope all is well with you and that you all had an awesome Thanksgiving. I do check in now and then but don't often comment since there are so many smart chicken folks here already. Anyway, hope you all enjoy the upcoming (or already in process) holidays!

Take care, Sunny

I have a question, I purchased the vertical nipples, they didn't come with any instructions....there is one part that sticks out a bit, does that go on the bottom? An does anyone know what size of drill we should use? They came with NO instructions. We picked up a 16 Gallon Bucket and it is heated, the cord comes out the bottom, we will set it up on something. We have figured out that would be enough water for them while we're gone....
