Lost the first of my original birds today. Noticed her face and comb were purple this morning and with in an hour she was gone. I think she was the one with the soft shell problems so I think something internal failed.

All the other birds look healthy and active she did too a couple of days ago. Nothing to indicate other illness.
I'm sorry for your loss.

I have one hen that doesn't look right to me.... Her craw looked really puffed up... so I caught her and wow her craw was as big as my hand.... What do you think it could be....She's the one that had some poo stuck on her butt, I didn't want to wash her because it's too cold..... So I took my sicizors and cut it off....She layer an egg today.... Rae

It is usually a digestion problem that caused the food to back up. Watch to make sure that the crop empties and if not you might need to empty it for her.

Treat for worms since worms are often the cause of the back up. Yogurt, grit and scrambled egg too.

And of course some good vitamins.

It is good that she is still laying eggs.

I hope she gets better soon!

Do you mean scrambled egg and Yogurt are good for her right now? Okay, please tell me what wormed medication she needs and then please tell me what vitamin is good to use.... Rae

Valbazen is the currently recommended wormer. I get it from Jeffers livestock.

Yes, yogurt and scrambled egg are good now, along with extra grit. The grit can be free choice.

The vitamin to use is poly vi sol without iron. Give her a couple of drops in the morning and a couple more in the evening.

That sounds like cardiovascular problems--ruptured liver can do this too.
She was a hatchery bird and was approaching 2 years old so she had a good run I think she turned and passed quickly She seemed fairly normal just days ago.

The others are coming out of molt so I was noticing how red their combs were and hers was purple. Ive seen some purple tips on the roosters comb on occasion when he gets overly excited or when its really hot.

I think my rooster was trying to tell me this morning something was wrong because he was following me and coming to the edge of the run wherever I was. Not his normal behavior, And not after she passed, I think he wanted me to do something but there was nothing I could have done,

It is hard to lose them.

The Rooster sounds like a keeper!
