Just talked to a coworker today about chicken feed. Turns out Costco has 40# organic bags of pellet and or crumble in merced for 16.99.

Lost the first of my original birds today. Noticed her face and comb were purple this morning and with in an hour she was gone. I think she was the one with the soft shell problems so I think something internal failed.

All the other birds look healthy and active she did too a couple of days ago. Nothing to indicate other illness. 

Sorry to hear of your loss. You come to know them as individuals and it is sad not to see them when doing chores each day. I lost my Snowman months ago and I still find myself talking to him when I'm walking up to that coop. He was 7 years old and part of the first chickens I got.

Yes they do become part of our lives and hearts. Has anyone read Alice Walker THE CHICKEN CHRONICLES??? She wrote the color purple...this is quite an awesome introspection on chickens. highly recommend!
AND costco in santa rosa i hear also does carry the organic feed....
