wow that pullet is beautiful!
awe, thank you so much! She'd be my favorite if she didn't run from me all of the time, lol!
I didn't think I'd like the blue jubilees as much as I do. But I'm quite smitten :) I can't wait for the combs to get red and brighten up closer to lay
Here's a couple more color shots. I love all of the colors

I see lots of space for coops and pens...

Nice!
yes!! Me too!! Great minds think alike :)

Lost the first of my original birds today. Noticed her face and comb were purple this morning and with in an hour she was gone. I think she was the one with the soft shell problems so I think something internal failed.

All the other birds look healthy and active she did too a couple of days ago. Nothing to indicate other illness.

That sounds like cardiovascular problems--ruptured liver can do this too.

Are you aware of the uc davis program where you send the deceased to them in a box with ice packs and they do a free necropsy? then they send you a full report of their findings. It is so helpful to know if something will effect the health of the whole flock or what the problem was this particular bird. Our vet in sebastopol usually has the boxes to send in but any box will do if packed with ice packs. if i find a dead bird i have a mini fridge in the garage for this purpose. i store it in there right away until i gather the box and ice packs and send it overnight. Davis also has a postal code you can use which helps greatly with cost of shipping. if anyone does not have this info and wants it i can supply links for the paperwork you need to fill out and instructions on the code, packing requirements etc.

Thanks for posting the information.

I drop them off on my lunch hour--I work on Campus.

LUCKY YOU!!! that is great! it is such an amazing service. it helps them help us to keep track of what is going on with backyard flocks too and where. i had a bout with mareks my first year. lost 4 or5 and two years later i had a hen that could stand etc. i had her put down immediately and sent to Davis...it was NOT mareks but a head injury. she must have gotten stuck someplace or ran into something or i don't know! but it was good to know for sure! plus there was NO sign of parasites or anything else really so it was good to know for the rest of the ladies.
