Thanks. My vet told me the semen lives inside them for three months
The semen lives in the hen for up to 4 to 6 weeks. It is less viable after two weeks. Hens have organs that store the semen and the ovum is fertilized as it goes through the reproductive tract.

There is never any semen in the eggs. You can tell if an egg is fertile when you crack it open because the embryo develops for one day inside the hen.

Yes, I have three roosters, took out rooster A. Rooster B and C very active. Three weeks later put eggs in incubator. At hatch, had some chicks from A still (feather legged). Figured B and C would dominate since they breed every day.

You got it!

The old sperm will be less in vitality and number but will still be there for around 4 weeks. It is stored in the glands and nourished by the hen. Sometimes longer but rarely so.

So sad.
I found my very first lash egg in a nest box today.
No idea who laid it.
Guess I just get to wait for one of my girls to pass away...
