California - Northern

Good luck with the auction!:thumbsup How exciting for you. Just one thought, make sure you get back the necropsy before you add any more chickens (especially $400 ones). You want to make sure everything is cleaned up properly and you're not risking the new ones.

Yes ma'am! I'm on it!

Since the cull. I've ripped out all the bedding in all the coops. Aired them out, sprayed with Braggs ACV ( Thanks Amy Beth for that idea!)
Ive sterilized the feeders I bought and build new trough feeders that I make. We've had our house thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.
I've even thrown away my coop clothes and shoes and replaced them.
I've been giving the whole flock antibodies and ACV just to be sure they don't have anything.

I have 7 coops total and their all spread around the property so noone lives near each other, and I think that helped with the sickness.
The brooder I had those "Sickos" in has been completely torn down. I'm getting new wood to build 2 new brooders this week.

Hopefully when the results from Davis get back they don't tell me I have like bad e coli or bird flu (lol) or something major and we can continue to move forward. ;)

Is there anything else I could do "clean up wise" to make sure I'm not missing anything?
You have already done more than I have! LOL We will build another coop but we are buried under other things- need to build a goose house, our deck needs some major tlc before the rains come...so many other things. My poor husband. He works in Chico so he has to drive from Redding (we are out by Bella Vista) into Chico every single day. I know the man is exhausted when he gets home and then he has this pile of stuff waiting for him. The chickens were my idea too. :|

It depends on what they had. Some of the CRD viruses hang around for something like 6 weeks. They will give you recommendations on what to do based on the results of the Necropsy.

I am hoping for a good test result for you!

you need a couple of those. Orps are so sweet and usually great layers. I know you fell for them right from the start. The EE's seem to take a long time to begin to lay and quit laying during molt or if anything is off. I'm getting all brown eggs right now so all my colored egg layers have not started back laying again. Of course two EE's were broody, one twice so we've been missing they're beautiful green eggs!

Quote: Although I am sure I have roosters, They are all very small....No Marans hatched. It was probably my fault. There was a bit of construction on the way home and I did hit a very hard series of bumps. Both of the pretty green/blue eggs hatched along with the three silke eggs. The Silkes are two black and one blue. The colored egg layers are both black with little muffs starting. One of the black silkie chicks is very small. Very healthy little guys though.

Yes, that genetics calculator starts appealing to my Geek nature.

Good morning to All!

Is anyone interested in going in on rooster processing this wed or Thursday?

I have 9 cockerels ready to go. I'm going to take them to the Sacramento processor.

I should butcher 2 more. There's group of 3 that I've been trying to decide which one I should keep for a breeder. Can't decide, so I guess I'll keep all 3. I'll see what they produce, then make a decision who to keep.

Wow that is a little mission everyday.
Me and my brother own a doggy day care in Reno, and we switch off going back and forth once a week and I thought that was major. Its only I think 157 miles to reno from my house. But your dude is doing that pretty much everyday!! That a real Boss!

I have noticed that this year with my "regular" EE. The Dorking x Ameraucana cross is not like that though. She is laying like crazy and the eggs are much bigger than the EEs eggs. Also, a much nicer blue.

I did get a bag of the catfood from Costco. It is Salmon meal, fish Meal and Yams. The Hens eat it fine but mine are all large fowl. I also splurged on a bag of Cascade layer so hopefully the molting will go easily on them. One of my BAs lost her tail feathers yesterday LOL
