Anyone insterested in rehoming a male 5w cuckoo maran? Free. Tehama county willing to deliver if local. Bought as a pullet at Reynolds feed in Red Bluff sorry about the blue kote, he has a little sore on his comb not sure if its pecking or from the chicken wire
The chick does not have wattles. Cuckoo marans cockerel would have a lighter color.

Marans have big combs even as pullets. The wattles give them away and will go big and pink if they are a boy

So your saying I should wait? His comb has only gotten bigger this past week and already has a pink color to it. It's also nearly double the size of the leghorns combs that are about the same age. I have never had a chick develop waddles this early

You should wait. The chick is too dark and the wattles are not even there. Here is a comparison for you of a pullet and cockerel at 6 weeks. Notice that the pullet has no wattles and is a similar color to yours. The cockerel has big pink wattles and is a lighter gray color

Awe! I wish I was more local.
