California - Northern

Just got back from a road trip. Picked up some chicks from Deb (was nice meeting you by the way)
took them to Deann. she met me at a gas station off hwy 116. then went up to northeast Santa Rosa and got myself a few more chickens.
Picked up 2 crele penedesesnca hens and a partridge penedesenca hen. ( she is molting) will get some pic's tomorrow.
Just made it back home.
My kids went with me. Great sports considering it was a 7 and a half hour round trip
Thanks again, and thank your kids. You are all troopers.

It was nice meeting you too Jason, thanks for the transport. Your kids really seemed settled into their car seats! Funny when I make an exchange on the side of the road (did it with someone's flock of serama they wanted to rehome and I've done it many time with frogs and/or fruit fly cultures), I always feel like I should be looking over my shoulder

. It feels like a drug deal.

Deb
It kinda is a drug deal. We all know what it is like getting our chicken fix.

Is there a new thread for the feed co-op? I looked into grain bins & silos. They are expensive and 22 tons would require multiple huge silos. I did not like Modesto Milling, but they will do a custom mix with a smaller minimum purchase. The Cascade recipe is actually a simple one. I have all the tags. MM has everything for the mix except the fish meal, which is what I want the most. I'm wondering if they could get it and do the custom mix for us?

What is that thing!

Ron, it's a Halloween chick!

They both have 5 toes and it looks like the toe is upside down? Looks like a thumbs up! Lol
The pointed up toe would actually be correct, if it was a Dorking.

But had to share Alice at 4 months old. :D

Alice is still so adorable!

I have done many exchanges with different critters in odd places. Picked up my bull (from Idaho) in the parking lot of a Nevada gas station. His breeder walked him out of his trailer and into mine with just his hand on the bull's back- no halter or rope.

Quote: I read a blog article that said the fish meal shortage is not real. The problem is with the stabilizer. There is a stabilizer that is used in Organic fishmeal and there is no shortage of it. Murray McMurray has oganic fismeal in stock. Modesto Mills would be a great place. Mike should check them out.

I need to check to see if there is a Halloween contest somewhere for my scary chicken.

Monstercluckers chick is a DorkingxAmeraucanaxRIR Easter Egger. Amazing that it kept the toe genes. Also, that is a very pretty chicken.

Happy Saturday

Oh, I forgot about the chicken exchange. For Craigs List sales, I do not like to meet them at my house. I meet them at the Bel Air Parking lot.

We did the same thing with a group of about a dozen sheep. A ram and some ewes. They drove their stock trailer down from Oregon, we drove up from the Sacramento area. We met at the stockyard in Cottonwood. We backed the two trailers end to end, planted a border collie at the gap on each side and sent a third dog into the trailer to push the animals from his trailer into ours. The whole exchange took less time than getting the trailers lined up!
