Oh chickens...

My older hens are suppose to be laying...I'm not too annoyed because they are still young...but I thought I would have had at least ONE egg by now! Its been almost 2 weeks...The friend who gave them to me said they were already laying.

On the bright side, I didn't have any eggs for my apple cobbler recipe tonight but it was delicious without it! :D
The stres from the move probably

I bought the mille fleur leghorns more than three weeks ago that were "laying". I have not had a single egg from either of them. longest i waited from other adult birds is about 8-10 days. strange but everyone was molting and we've been losing daylight so i'm holding out hope but come on already girls!!

They look great Jason.

nice group shot

Great looking Penes! Let me know how you want to get them to me.

I moved my probably basque cockerel and the two TJs chicks in with my two Pennes tonight. I hope they get along tomorrow. I need to make room. AI will me moving my 3 Heritage RIRs in with the layers soon and move them out so that I can move my 9 Dorking crosses into the chicken hutch. They are 4 weeks old and I am starting to tell the boys from the girls. I have have a blue Marans Dorking pullet and a black marans Dorking pullet.

These guys are big and hungry things....

Sorry about not getting the eggs. Maybe you should get a spouse to feed them peanuts.

Have you tried cayenne pepper? Also, if they are molting get them some animal protein. TSC sells little bags of Ultra kibble. You mix it into their feed at a 10 to 1 ratio(for layer or grower feed--7 to 1 for grains only) and it has animal protein. Gets them over their molt more quickly.

Also, calcium causes contractions.

If they do not start laying again before mid November, your only option will be to wait until January or so or give them a couple hours of light each morning.
