Bloom is a coating that preserves the egg. If you do not wash it off, it will help the egg stay fresh(block bacteria and etc.) for weeks on the counter and months in the fridge. The first eggs often have a lot of it on the egg.

Anyone else getting ready for the rain? So far today, I've cleaned the coop and brooders, split a whole wheelbarrow of cedar for kindling and brought another cart into the garage of oak firewood. Gotta bunch more work to do yet. But, I'm really looking foward to some rain. It'll be nice when it starts to green up around here:)

Hoping for rain, but if I get ready for it, it won't come! Now, if I leave a car window down or something, it will rain for sure.

Yeah, I just screwed in a couple of mudd trays inside each coop to use as feeders. The mudd trays I am referring to are the ones tilers use for grout and such. So far, they work great.

Last year I carried their big metal feeders in and out and it was a bummer when the rain came unexpectedly. This year I am prepared. I am leaving their big feeder outside and will turn a small garbage can over them when it rains to keep em dry.
