Glad everyone is having a good chicken day!
I just got a new flock of Basques yesterday from Papabrooder! I've been seriously preoccupied with them enjoying their beauty. It's a mixed flock of all ages andexes so I should have a pretty good start on picking good breeders. D I still have a brooder full of them!
My pastures are FINALLY greening up!! It makes being outside a lot more enjoyable when there is not a blan view of brown dry grass.
Taking a break from building Pens. I'm wondering how many ill end up with.
So far my breeds that will be in breeding pens are...
Euskal Oiloa Basques
Blue orpington
Lavender orpington
Gold Laced Brahma
Silver laced Brahma
Buff Brahma
I'm thinking 15 breeds and 20 pens.

Congratulations, you are officially an addict! Welcome to the enabler club...:P

They are so big! They are bigger than my Barred Plymouth Rocks. They are also very quiet and friendly.

I can't wait to hatch more.

One of these days I'll have to get me some eggs... I've only seen picture. Would Love to see them in person..how well do they lay?

Ok, have been off the computer for almost 3 days. Just read 150+ posts! phew. Glad you all have continued in your chicken obsession without me! Sad to see my basques go, but so glad they are still close in case I decide I need some eggs down the road!! Happy basque watching Mike!

I just candled the eggs I am hatching for Papa Brooder and they are doing very well!

All of the Silkie, Rhodebar and Swedish Flower Hens are developing. 1 or 2 of the Cream Legbars are duds. The EEs are all developing. The only breed not developing are the ones with a J on them. I do not know what they are though....I guess Jubilee Orpington? I hope it is just early for those. At least no blood rings in the Js.

Ron
Yes, those are the Jubliees and they are still pullet eggs and I think I had messed with the pen so probably stirred things up a bit. how many of those were there? Thanks again so much for helping me out!! I think I had a few CL pullet eggs in there as well.
I Also have a hatch chart for Papa Brooder:

These were set before noon, so the first day counts.

Ron
Thanks ron, you are amazing!

Quote: Yes, I am also interested in these RIR and breeding them with some of my rhodebar males, so if you get yourself some extras maybe I can buy a pullet or two from you?? :-)

Happy sunday to all! OH, i got my first blue copper marans egg in like 6 weeks!! i forgot what a dark egg looked like for a while. seems the molting is over and hopefully the eggs will start coming a bit more consistently!!

Hi all,
I want to say hi, I'm Heather and I'm in the Marysville/Grass Valley area. Basically, I'm in awe of the conversation you're having and all the activity that is happening. I have no birds to show, but would love to go to a show sometime. Oh, oh, and I have a friend looking for jubilee orpingtons. I think she prefers chicks, but would hatch. Anyone close to me have these? Cheers!

Hi Heathr,

Jeff ( Papa Brooder ) ,Molly ( Miss Molly) I believe Deann at Just Struttin raise these. probably more as well.
