Quote: I ground up the fat and rendered it in a crock pot. The meat left over is like ground sausage. If I had put it back into the pot and crisped it up it would have been Cracklins. The soft ones are chitlins.
Yes, they are good for the chickens. Coming from your hogs, it will be high in all the good fat and animal protein that they need. I am with you though. I do not like Cracklins.
It's such an ugly day today up here in Anderson. Very grey and dreary. I cannot wait for spring!
I moved my older brahmas (6-7 mnth) out of the backyard yesterday to the pasture where all my other pens are. They were definitely not feeling the move!
i had to take a section of my privacy fence down to get it out,and then put it right back up lol.
I'm happy how my breeding pens are coming out. I'll take some pictures after coffee to show you guys. (in kinda proud of it)
This is for all of the hatching going on in Northern CA Why is it that out of a bunch of breeds hatching at the same time and even mixed between Bantams and Large Fowl the EEs hatch first? When I checked on the hatch first thing this morning there were no pips. I heard chirping
. When I checked just before heading to work, two of the EEs had pips? None of the others?
I wonder how many will have hatched by the time I get home....Good thing I did not set up a hatch cam.
Edited to add: Oh yes, Monster! Please post pictures of your pens!

For those of you with cream legbars- since they auto sex. Once you have your breeders established- when you hatch more to sell (chicks) what will/do you do with the extra boys. Since you are not likely to need them and you cannot sell them unsexed (because they are already sexed) do you grow the cockerels out and rehome them alter or do you cull the extra males while still hatchlings? You can PM me if you do not want to share in thread. I am really curious.
I may want to do cream legbars instead of Easter eggers so if I breed with a dark brown layer - for some olive eggers - would they still be auto sexing? Or do they lose that when mixing them with another breed?
Oh my. Yum. Growing up my gramma used to get these from the butcher. She just loves them. Made her breath smell foul though I won't lie. But they tasted soooo good! Excuse my typos. Sent from my iPhone.
Also my favorite "broody" is a black hen from my blue project. She's a large hen (for a Barnevelder) that has really nice lacing. She is an excellent broody...pretty much too broody, but she's earned a place in my flock as the designated momma hen.
Very dedicated while hatching eggs and good momma.
Beautiful lacing. She has like 17 chicks under her in this pic.
Her as a pullet
So again keep the best blacks...you may be happy with them
Had to edit/switch the middle pic...I used the wrong one LOL..
