California - Northern

I will multi quote later when I turn my pc back on. After last nights storm we have a drenched chicken coop, we lost 3 trees - 2 were very large and one of those took out out fence. Baby ducks ok but I stayed up all night in case the power went out so I could put warm water bottles with them. We got a record 10 eggs from the ducks and we only have 11 females. Go duckies! 2 from my chickens so far. The yard is thoroughly trashed. Lol

Okay, spoiled rotten here, DH is outside letting out all my chickens, I'm sitting here warm and dry on the computer.

Last night he collected all the eggs and even labeled each one inidividually so I would know what pen they were from. Lots of hatching eggs at the moment.

I'm going to have to think of something nice for him.................

You ARE spoiled rotten!
Only in one spot not sure what was going on there. went out to check no one was drowning and we are inches deep in water all over the yard, and we are on a hill! Every quail coop is still dry, do not know how that is happening, lol. Silkieland is dry! Of course the run is 2 inches deep in water, so no putting them out there.
We are on a hill too - there's just way too much water. I have a couple brave ones that are out, but they are under the coop. Now that the wind has stopped and it's just pouring rain, I guess they figured it was time to come outside.

I had to run outside, saw something wrong outside. I get out there and we lost a lodge pole - it was leaning at a 45 degree angle. I laid it on the ground so no chickens will get smooshed. Thankfully it's to the grapes and not the fence.

Sorry about the trees and fence, but glad you are all okay. And Yay on the duck eggs - I'll be interested in hearing how they lay next winter.

I guess we all got slammed with this rainstorm!

Don't you wish we could be like kids and think this is "so cool" as the rain pours down and floods everything?

(That's quoting my son, who is wearing choring boots and a jacket and running around outside!)

We have puddles deeper than the baby chicks are tall..........I just hope Momma Buffy is smart enough to keep them away from the water?
We also have leaning, broken fences and lots of tarps to repair. I can be really thankful that I'm not homeless right now! Stay safe and dry everyone!

Just checking up on you guys. Happy Chooks that's was a close one. Glad noone got smooshed.

The sun has been shining here for about an hour. There was another BIG rainbow over the mountains. I wish I could have snapped the picture.
I'm hoping I won't find swimming chickens later on this evening :/.

Amy your a lucky gal to be getting all those eggs right now. I have I don't know know how many chickens and I'm getting a whopping TWO eggs max a day. I just keep thinking to myself all the eggsill be swimmn in come spring time!

...Check back in a minute

I let out everyone early before the rain started and herded them onto the covered porch. Put food out there for them. There are a shocking number of places for them to hide that are dry. Some of the big girls are staying under the dry bushes and cooing happily. The turkeys decided they should be following me around the yard and FREAKED out. Silly birds, don't follow me in the rain and the complain its wet! and if you do, go back inside don't keep following and yowling like wet cats!

DH slept in till 930 today, he was so happy. I think the rain soothed him every time he tried to get up. What a wonderful day to stay home and do nothing. At least its a Sunday.
Stay dry and happy today everyone.

The chickens and the insides of their coops are all dry, can't say the same for the bottoms of the runs. They are covered, but the water is just seeping in from the side. The ground is just saturated.

When it's cold/gray/rainy, I just have to bake. In my mind, it goes together. So I have fresh blueberry muffins baking right now for a late breakfast. We are all in the house warm and dry. Is it strange that I love the sound of the rain drops rattling on the roof vents (over the range and over the water heater)?

Aww, how sweet!!! My DH doesnt do much with the chickens besides building coops, runs and paying for them :) I was lucky the rain had stopped for a few when I went out. Everyone is dry and comfy.

He actually does all the feeding/watering/building/hauling, my job is to enjoy the chickens and plan. When we go to a show, he helps bathe, loads the truck, hauls everything into the showroom, etc. Dang, I better be even nicer to him!

My current hatch is wrapping up today. I had a couple of chicks pip in the wrong spot and not make it and of course the normal non-hatchers. I think I have nine chicks out of the 16 I locked down. The quail are still popping out, so not sure on them yet. I put 35 eggs into lockdown, but I don't candle them at all. Photos later.

After spending time cleaning out the gutters, the heavy downpour over flowed it any way!

!

The runs are a muddy mess, but my Hens are like the flood like your son, wading around looking for worms.

It is nice that you share in the interest. My DH is a pretty good enabler and that is helpful when I am looking for new breeding stock. I have a pretty small flock and enjoy the caring for it myself. Gives me something to do . :) Yes, you do need to be especially nice to him lol! that baking you do just might take care of it ..

The only part of our runs that is available to the Silkies this time of year is covered. It is damp from rain blowing in but it is sort of on a hill so no puddles. I cant let the Silkies get wet or I have to dry them in this colder weather. I dont particularly feel like sitting with a pile of wet chickens and a blowdryer all day lol!

Deb, I would like to see a pic of how you used that runner on your coop. I think that I have the idea, though. I'd like to be able to do it in a way that doesn't look tacky, since those coops are the cute ones. I would love to have gutters on all my coops & barns for rainwater collection. That wouldn't help the leaky nest boxes, though. Both coops have eaves that should shelter the nest boxes but don't.
Kelly, sorry about your leak. House leaks are definitely worse than my little issue.
You and Cooper have such awesome trees, Laura too. I'm so envious. My place is mostly open with a handful of trees that are maybe 10-20 years old at most.
Wow, Ron, super work on the digests!
LOL on the hen in prison!

Last night, the wind woke me up at 1:30 am. 37 mph gusts according to the station 5 miles away. I was worried about the roosters in the dog kennel coop. It has blown over once, a few years ago. So, I told my husband that I needed to move them. He got out of bed and tromped across the property with me, and helped me move the roosters into a crate in the barn. I couldn't believe he did it without even griping. That's not usual. Maybe because he has supposed to have built me permanent rooster pens. I was grateful, just surprised. Roosters actually seemed calm about being moved.

Mid morning, rain stopped. I took this. Notice the BAD little steers who went through the fence and are in the olive orchard!
