Wow this thread moves really fast! Is it always like this? Good for Northern California.

we just had a crazy down pour for about 10 minutes. now it is just raining hard.Ron - you are a hatching addict for sure if you have your incubator hooked up to a battery.
I'm very thankful our trees are still standing. We have a 200 ft tall ponderosa pine 20 feet off the back of our house.
Over 10 inches of rain so far for us in this storm. The ground isn't holding any more water - it's like a river outside. I made it out quickly to check on everybody - I came in soaked - had to change clothes.
thanks Ron for the recap, i SO cannot keep up with this thread lately. I do my research work out at Point Reyes, where the Secretary of the Interior very unfairly has just decided to shut down Drakes Bay Oyster Farm -- so it's been a busy few days for me, trying to keep up with everything that's happening & whether there are next step(s) that can be taken...

back here at home, everything's soggy from all the rain, but happy to see that the coop (and more specifically, the coop's roof) came through last night's howling wind with nary a scratch -- hooray!! we're all going to need naps today, barely slept at all during that roar -- but it seems like the worst has passed...
Okay, spoiled rotten here, DH is outside letting out all my chickens, I'm sitting here warm and dry on the computer.I made it out quickly to check on everybody - I came in soaked - had to change clothes.
the problem is mold. I am not to concerned with mine getting wet because I clean and dry it between rainsthe rain has actually stopped, at least momentarily, here in sonoma -- i just took the chickens some yogurt & treats, the floor of their run is completely soaked through, & there's a small pond of standing water in one corner, but inside their henhouse is still nice and dry -- hooray for that!
does it matter for "deep litter method" litter to get so wet?
We may or may not have 3 battery backups for incubators <<. Of course they are mostly for DH work, I just borrow them, so they are HUGE industrial ones that last for quite a while. I may or may not also own 2 car chargers for using in real emergencies.Ron - you are a hatching addict for sure if you have your incubator hooked up to a battery.

I let out everyone early before the rain started and herded them onto the covered porch. Put food out there for them. There are a shocking number of places for them to hide that are dry. Some of the big girls are staying under the dry bushes and cooing happily. The turkeys decided they should be following me around the yard and FREAKED out. Silly birds, don't follow me in the rain and the complain its wet! and if you do, go back inside don't keep following and yowling like wet cats!Okay, spoiled rotten here, DH is outside letting out all my chickens, I'm sitting here warm and dry on the computer.Drinking coffee![]()

Last night he collected all the eggs and even labeled each one individually so I would know what pen they were from. Lots of hatching eggs at the moment.
I'm going to have to think of something nice for him.................

I was lucky the rain had stopped for a few when I went out. Everyone is dry and comfy.
