ahh! See, I'm loud people remember me at least! I was not the Hispanic guy with the award winning roosters. I was the dirty blond chick in the front. Next to the Japaneses guy who snuck out to get food. The necropsies at the lab at UCD are free. Checking for parasites has a fee. Your vet can do just as good of a job. I've heard that it's simple, can be done with a microscope. If you homeschool your kids, you might want to make it a science project for them. I agree that you should check for parasites before worming again. If you worm too much, it causes drug resistance.
Kelly, your chickens have the same coloring as Red Dorkings, very pretty.
Chiquita, I like to see turkeys. Turkeys are on my someday wish list. You were at the same talk as me, at the Expo. I wish I would have known it was you. I keep trying to remember what the person looked like who asked about the Marans.
.I have been using the pressure cookers this week. Beans in 25 minutes and pulled pork in 45 minutes. The pulled pork was tender and tasty too.I think they grow even after 1 year. But, I'm just on 11 months of chickens( well breeding chickens, 1.5 on ownership 1 year of eggs on Nov 27th!). How old is the dauphin ( now called louie becuse hes king rooster) ? Same age as the girls? He seems to be just gaining weight in the chest, not getting taller or rounder. just fuller and deeper.
Chooks, ALL my hems are practacly bare of color, i was trying to breed down speedys riot. But the more I see marans, the happier I am with my hens, they all have good backs and tail set and chests. I got shockingly lucky picking them up. The Universe wanted me to have Marans!
I really don't know much about combs except for the space from the head thing .
Its my poor little showgirls that are not really up to snuff. At least Iggy appears to have a sex linked gene so all his smoothed feathered chicks are boys. At least my other silkies are good so besides the not great feet the next generation of chicks is pretty. And I can help the pullet % by holding back the smooth feathered ones, a good thing for silkies. they should be even better in spring with the new boys. we shall see....
I'm making pork this week! Pozole for dinner and 1-3 day roast ( from the Zuni cafe cookbook, so called becuse they tell you to rest everything for 1-2 days before cooking. even hamburger! grind your own, spice, rest 1-3 days...) for later in the week. The thing was too big to fit into the slow cooker, so I thought I'd do 2. The house is starting to smell good now!
Wow for once something almost grosses me out! lmbo!Chiquita:
Thank you for the Talapia information. I watched a Doomsday Preppers episode where they had converted a swimming pool for Talapia. The chickens lived over the deep end with a screen that allowed the manure to fall into the pool to feed the fish. The Preppers would fish each day to catch their dinner. I would get very tired of fish.
About the banning of Talapia. The same thing happened with Burmese Pythons. The only live in a narrow band in South Florida. They don't hibernate, so they die in the winter every where else but they are banned for the entire US.
Weird.....
