Anyone in my neck of the woods (Redding-ish area) selling any chicks or young pullets? I have a friend who just finished her coop and wants to join chicken world. :D

I have 2 pullet chicks in that batch that hatched late September. I also have another pullet born last Spring and a year old hen, along with some older hens. All not good for breeding but fine as egg layers. I have to make a trip to Redding sometime to return my friend's cat.

DH made it back from Chico last night. Finished the entire roof job, the shingles he put on in the pouring rain.

Thank you so much- I passed along that info! Between you and Jeff- I hope we can help her get started. :D Always willing to enable you know!

Quote: For perspective, the standard on a silkie hen is 2 pounds, an orp hen is 8 pounds. They actually lay a decent size egg for the size of the bird, small to medium. Not like a serama, peewee. A modern game bantam is small, palm size. They are just all leg. Although they come in a LF size too. Very cool bird is you like the unique, since in the past I showed both Italian Greyhounds and Scottish Deerhounds, I like modern bantams, lots of leg. I just can't get past the having to dub the males in order to show them.

Silkies won't take up your roost space unless you give them a ladder/ramp to the roost. They can't fly, so they usually just dog pile on the floor.

I wouldn't count out your bantam W completely, they are pretty tenacious about trying and he just might "hit the spot" one of these times!

Ok ignorant alert! What doe sit mean to DUB?

Aright so I will keep a nice clean spot for them in a corner. I can do that!

And that would be HILARIOUS if Foghorn eventually hits the spot. It really is a hoot when he mounts them. The girl squats as if to say ummm go ahead try if you want. She doesn't really protest much. Now when my Marans boy hit her up- she was all a squawking and trying to get away.

PO flub!

Oh my gosh there is a mes sup at the post office. My shipping label got wet so they couldn't read where it was supposed to go to? What? So I read that they tried to deliver it to me but no one was home? I am RIGHT here staring out my window waiting for over an hour! Then they say they have the baby ducks at the PO and she is looking at them...but they tried to deliver chicks to me an hour ago? It's hard to even explain but what a mess. But I didn't order any chicks??? Oh my! So I sit here and wait...

Their comb and wattles are cut off. It goes back to cockfighting. It removes the loose skin so the bird is less likely to be injured in a fight so they won't bleed from their injuries. I think show birds are dubbed because of their original purpose. It does give the birds a unique look. Females and cockerels can be shown, but I think even cockerels will be looked down on if they are uncut. I've watched it be done, because my son had a OEGB when he was in 4H.

If you are truly interested, look it up on youtube, but it is not for the squeamish.

And maybe your hens just think Foghorn is cute!

You said he's the main man, the girls apparently aren't prejudiced about his height!
